"World of Tomorrow" by Rita Widmer Summary: The one year anniversary of Sept. 11 effects Mac and Harm on a quiet night at home. Disclaimer: I do not own "JAG" and its characters. I also don't own the speech in this story. That belongs to Rupert Holmes and "Remember WENN". This does not belong to any of my other stories. Classification: Angst, kind of shipper, but not any other pairing. ********************************************************************** *************** Sept. 11, 2002 Mac's Apartment Georgetown ************** Harm and Mac were enjoying their favorite past time of late. The reruns of "Remember WENN" were being shown every Wednesday. The story of WWII effecting the lives of a small radio station had caught their eye. The episode was called "World of Tomorrow". In the background, bombs were hitting the ground of the city of London as 2 news broadcasters told the news. Something that the character, Jeff Singer, said caught their ears specifically. Today, they had spent time at a memorial for those that died last year in the Pentagon and the World Trade Center. "Tomorrow is promised to no one they say. Tomorrow can be filled with promises if we just allow our..our world to just spin around on its orbit. If we can thank our good fortune for being along on this ride. Then our world of tomorrow will be a place bright with hope. Lit not by the smoking fires of the dark, but by the light of the morning. The dawn of respect...compassion and understanding." Harm looked over at Mac as music started playing on the screen. The tears that were gathering in his eyes were reflected in hers. Only a year ago, they found out what it was like to know their city was being hit. Just like London did in 1940, New York City and Washington D.C. had to face cleaning up of rubble and bodies left when it was finished. He took her in his arms and each cried in memorial to those that died. Pulling back slightly, Harm said, "Sarah, we both know what it is like to loose those dear to us. Both of us are so lucky to be alive today. If it wasn't for you, I would have died out there in that ocean. Together we can bring hope to each other's lives. Lets live for today and make it the best we can, because we never know when it will be taken away from us." Mac only nodded to his statement. She leaned over and gave him a gentle kiss to start the hope in their hearts for a bright tomorrow.
