Sitting in his quiet apartment, Harm let his fingers caress his guitar. 
Softly swirling, the music filled the air as he reminisced on his time 
at JAG. When his thoughts drifted to Mac, he paused, the silence 
closing in.

 "Was it worth it?" his subconscious taunted. He'd given up his 
commission to save her life and lost everything, including Mac. God, he did 
love her although he could never say the words. He tried to show her and 
had failed. Their kiss on the Admiral's porch spoke volumes as to how 
he felt, but when they had drawn back, her eyes were fearful and 
questioning.

It was fear that had brought them to where they stood right now - 
nowhere. But that didn't matter any more. While his answer to the persistent 
voice in his head was "yes," he'd do it again in a heartbeat, Mac's 
answer to the unspoken question between them was, sadly, no.
