The rest were about some where that even included their mother but once they had arrived the clan had split with orders to reassemble at 1400. Not a problem. The twins naturally gravitated to each other and were now on the prowl. Without warning there was gunfire and two men came round the corner at a dead run. The twins managed to step out of the way in the nick of time as minutes later Mall Security soon followed. "Two! You ok?" Elliott demanded of his brother. Despite his growth spurts James was still the smaller of the two. He nodded. "I'm ok. What about you One?" "I'll live." He assured his brother. "Let's go tell mom." "In this massive place? We'll never find her." James pointed out. The elder looked at his watch. "She's in the food court." He stated matter factually. They grinned at each other and headed in search of Mac. ==================================== 1300 LOCAL AT THE MALL These days it was rare to have the clan together. David twenty two and Cat nineteen were now at Annapolis and soon the twins would follow… or so they said. Cat what a name. It had gone from Catherine to Cathy to Cat. One day she would reveal the origin of that. And so today the entire Rabb family was at the mall, albeit they were scattered but they were all at the mall. Sarah Rabb nicknamed Mac had her own agenda. It was 1300 and that meant lunch! Anyone needing her would have to take a number get in line and wait. She was halfway though her meal when that policy was put to the test. It failed. Her twins skidded into her nearly turning the table with her meal over. "Mom!" they chorused. She grabbed the table. "Take it easy! This is NOT a baseball pitch where you need to slide into home. Now what ever it is can wait till I've finished this meeting." Even as they panted they frowned. "Meeting?" James asked. "Mr. Ribs meet my sons." Mac said. "Mooom!!!" Elliott wailed as he placed her shopping down and sat next to her. James positioned himself opposite her. She resigned herself to the interruption. "Spill it and it had better be good." "It is!" James assured her. She waited. "There was an armed robbery!" Elliott announced triumphantly. "That good enough?" James asked. That got their mother's attention "Cute 007 cute. Are you all right?" "Yeah yeah." James replied, "Don't fuss so mom." She glared at her youngest. "You come here with a story about an armed robbery that you obviously witnessed. So if you DON"T mind I will worry about you. Wait till you have a family son then talk to me about fussing." Properly chastised he apologized "Sorry mom." "Yeah sorry mom." She snorted reached for her cell phone and dialed. The twins exchanged glances. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all. "Harm!" Mac said. "Where are you?" The boys listened to the one sided conversation. "There was an armed robbery here are you and David ok? Uh huh. No not necessary. See you at 1400." The twins perked up. "We're not leaving?" Elliott queried. "No. Go do what it ever it is that you do and let me touch base with your sister." She smiled. "Thanks" they chorused and left. Mac dialed her daughter's cell number. As she placed the phone to her ear James returned and kissed her free cheek. "Love ya!" he whispered. She nodded. "Love you too dear." Then her daughter came on. "Cat!" James left. ==================================== SUNDAY – 1500 LOCAL BACK YARD RABB RESIDENCE The twins had gone into the woods at the back of their home to practice a presentation for school. "Ready?" Elliott asked. James nodded. Elliott hit the button of the cassette player. James: Jump Jump Elliott: You should know you should know better James: Kriss Kross is not having anything today as we commence to cross out. Elliott: We commence to make you James: Jump Jump Elliott: The Daddy Mac'll make you James: Jump Jump Elliott: Er Mac Daddy'll make you James: Jump Jump Elliott: Kriss Kross make you James: Jump Jump Elliott: Don't try to compare us to another…. They stopped and whirled around at the sound of laughter. "Now there is a site. Identical twins singing a line about not comparing them." A man said. The twins had come face to face with the mall robbers of the day before. Recognition flashed across the boy's features. "I saw that." The man said. "Did you see that Felix?" "Indeed I did Terry. I saw recognition. Now why do you think that is?" A second man replied. Terry stared at the teenagers. "You were at the mall yesterday weren't you?" "Terry get a grip." Felix said, "Where in a mall of thousands you remember these two?" "How many identical twins do you see on a regular basis?" Terry accused. The twins were trapped but said nothing and watched. Suddenly James threw himself on the two men. "Run One! Run! 007 will take care of it!" and with that he charged. Elliott was torn and hesitated but his brother's words rang in his ears. "Run! One! Run!" he ran. James and the two men fell into a pile of arms and legs. By the time they had disentangled themselves Elliott was almost home. ==================================== SUNDAY – 1547 LOCAL RABB RESIDENCE Elliott ran from the woods through the back yard into the house without slowing down. He entered at a dead run shouting all the way. "Help, Socour! Ayutame!" He finally collided with a warm body and was stopped. Panting. "Boy get a hold of yourself!" Harm commanded. "Now where is the fire!" The rest of the family emerged from various parts of the house as he struggled to slow his breathing to tell. Finally "They got James!" "Who!" Cat demanded. Elliott was still heaving and could only point at his mother and then make a sign for a phone call. For no reason that Mac would ever be able to explain she understood. "The robbers?!" She asked. He nodded. He was an athletic teen, but the dash at full tilt and the fear for his brother had had its toll. Mac and Harm exchanged looks then burst into action. "Show me now!" Harm demanded. Mac headed for her room but not before instructing her elder children. "Arm yourselves." The she stopped Harm. "Wait for us at the garden edge we don't want to loose you all." He nodded. They scattered. ==================================== The pile of arms and legs were finally separated into Felix, Terry and James and they were on the move. Terry held the teen by the scruff of his shirt. "Now what!" He demanded as they paused for a rest. "We keep him with us." Felix said. "Why not just kill the tadpole! He's slowing us down!" "For one I am no killer!" Felix explained "… and two he may come in handy in a negotiation." "OK" Terry agreed reluctantly. "Move runt." James saw red "Don't call me that!" He swung and caught the man off guard and sent him flying into his partner. The two men collapsed and he heard a double crack. He paused. Neither man moved. James dusted his hands "I may be the last Rabb but I'm no runt!" He said. He reached for the six-inch knife that Terry had sheathed. His growth spurts though having him on par with the rest of his siblings sometimes left him awkward he couldn't afford to cut himself today. Moving carefully he used the knife to cut nearby vines and used them as rope to tie the men up. "Folks who know me call me 007." He informed the unconscious men and took off on a run. ==================================== 1654 LOCAL Harm and Elliott stood waiting for the rest to meet them. It didn't take long. As they approached the sixteen year old suddenly let out a screech making Harm jump. "Elliott!" he admonished. "Sorry Dad. James and I communicate via bird call I was just trying to see if he was near and could answer." Mac heard the explanation, "and?" "Nothing." She handed side arms to them. The boy took the gun with a grim look on his face. He was desperate. He now had an idea of how his twin felt when the spider had bitten him while in Russia. He needed his brother and he would not rest till he had him in a bear hug. "This way." He led them to the site where they had encountered the men. "You sure?" Cat asked. "Yes!" he snapped, "Look there is the cassette player." "They went this way." David was crouching looking at a trail. "Then that's the way we go as well." Mac was grim. She'd be damned if she'd give up any of her offspring to thugs and certainly not her last. ==================================== SUNDAY – 2230 LOCAL RABB RESIDENCE In a repeat of his twin's earlier entrance James entered the yard at a dead bolt. He screeched to halt when he found the house locked up. He searched his pockets and sighed with relief he had a key. He opened the kitchen door and entered. "Mom!" He called. "Cat!" He tried again. He knew there was no one in but he felt compelled to call "Anyone!" There was only the sound of silence. ==================================== SUNDAY – 2300 LOCAL RABB RESIDENCE The five Rabbs returned to the house devastated. There had been no sign of James. Elliott was inconsolable. "I shouldn't have left him!" He said for the hundredth time to no one in particular. "Any one call the police?" Cat asked. They stared at each other dumb struck. "Nooo" Harm drawled. "Better call now." He moved to the phone. "Wait!" Mac commanded. Everyone froze. Then they heard it. There was someone in the house. Immediately their guard and guns went up. They moved toward the kitchen … + + + James heard the sounds of people in the house. He hoped it was his folks but one could never be too sure. He opened one of the kitchen draws and found a handgun. He opened a second drawer and loaded it. He crept towards the source of sound. + + + The six Rabbs came face to face with each other. "Two!" Elliott shouted with relief. "One!" The two brothers moved like magnets towards each other and hugged. The rest relaxed. "Come here!" Mac insisted and enveloped her lost one in a hug that threatened to suffocate him. He eventually was passed to each and every member of the clan. They moved to the kitchen where James explained what had happened. Elliott refused to leave his side. It was David who placed the adventure in perspective. "007 strikes again!" "Damn straight…" He grinned "Sorry mom." He apologized. "We'll go get them in the morning." Harm pronounced. "Welcome home 007." Cat said. THE END.
