Title: Songs of Love Author: Nicole Category: Songfic, R [Harm/Mac, Bud/Harriet, AJ/Sydney, Carolyn/Mic, Loren/other] Rating: PG Spoilers: none Disclaimer: the characters aren’t mine and neither are the songs. They belong to DPB and Faith Hill respectively. Summary: Karaoke night at McMurphy’s Feedback: desired Author’s Note: Faith Hill sings so many love songs on ‘Breathe’ that I just had to use ‘em. Also, assumes that Harm/Renee and Mac/Mic broke up and Carolyn and Mic are together. Also, I know it’s more song than story, but I couldn’t resist. 1903 hours McMurphy’s Mac laughed as Tiner finished his song. “Oh, that was bad!” she exclaimed. Harm took mock offense to Mac’s comment. “Are you saying that male singers are bad?” Loren laughed, “All women can sing better than men, sir!” AJ raised an eyebrow. “You just volunteered yourself, Lieutenant.” Loren gave a quirky little smile. “Aye, Sir!” The JAG group laughed as Loren stood up and made her way to the makeshift stage. She looked over the song selections and made her choice. As the song queued up, Loren brought the mike to her lips. “This song is for my boyfriend back home.” Loren smiled as she took her cue from the music. “Damn these old wheels Rollin’ too slow I stare down this white line With so far to go Headlights keep comin’ Loneliness hummin’ along “Who poured this rain Who made these clouds I stare through this windshield Thinkin’ out loud Time keeps on crawlin’ Love keeps on calling me home “I’d jump all these mountains And take to the skies Sail through the heavens With stars in my eyes “If my heart had wings I would fly to you And lie beside you as you dream If my heart had wings “We both committed We both agreed You do what you have to To get what you need Feeling you near me with so many miles in between “Oh, Lord it ain’t easy Out here in the dark To keep us together so far apart “If my heart had wings I would fly to you And lie beside you as you dream If my heart had wings “Stuck on this circle Spinnin’ around Cut loose from this road That keeps tying me down When the song was finished, Loren put the mike back and returned to her seat. “Very nice, Loren,” Harm commented. Carolyn smiled. “It was nice, Loren. And since we were on the subject of women singing, I guess I’ll go up, now.” Carolyn leaned over to kiss Mic lightly before going up to the stage. She picked up the mike and selected her song, taking a deep breath before speaking into the mike. “This is for Mic.” “If I could grant you one wish I wish you could see the way you kiss I love watching you baby When you’re driving me crazy “I love the way you love the way you love me (The way that you laugh and breathe and smile When you touch me, drives me wild) There’s nowhere else I’d rather be To feel the way I feel with your arms around me (I melt and spin and fall again) I only wish you could see the way you love me (love me) Whoa oh oh, the way you love me “It’s not right, it’s not fair What you’re missing over there Someday I’ll find a way to show you Just how lucky I am to know you “I love the way you love the way you love me (The way that you laugh and breathe and smile When you touch me, dives me wild) There’s nowhere else I’d rather be To feel the way I feel with your arms around me (I melt and spin and fall again) I only wish you could see the way you love me (love me) Whoa oh oh, the way you love me “You’re the million reasons why There’s the love in my eyes “I love the way you love the way you love me (The way that you laugh and breathe and smile When you touch me, dives me wild) There’s nowhere else I’d rather be To feel the way I feel with your arms around me (I melt and spin and fall again) I only wish you could see the way you love me (love me) Whoa oh oh, the way you love me The way you love me (love me) Whoa oh oh, the way you love me When Carolyn returned to her seat and kissed Mic again, Sydney stood. “Well, since we seem to be singing to our SOs, I guess it’s my turn!” AJ looked terrified as Sydney got up on stage and selected her song, telling the audience that the song was for him. “Baby I've been drifting away And dreaming all day Of holding you, touching you The only thing I wanna do is be with you As close to you as I can be “Let's make love All night long Until all our strength is gone Hold on tight Just let go I want to feel you in my soul Until the sun comes up Let's make love “Do you know what you do to me Everything inside of me Is wanting you and needing you I'm so in love with you Look in my eyes Let's get lost tonight In each other “Let's make love All night long Until all our strength is gone Hold on tight Just let go I want to feel you in my soul Until the sun comes up Let's make love “So, Mac, what about you?” Mac shook her head. “Nuh-uh! No way, Flyboy!” “Come on, Mac!” Harriet exclaimed. “I will if you will!” Mac considered it, then said, “How about this: we’ll all sing one together, then I’ll sing in a trio, then you sing, Harriet, and then I’ll sing. I’ll even sing two songs.” Harriet thought about this, looking at the other women for their opinion. They all nodded and Harriet turned back to Mac. “All right, but you have to sing two songs.” Mac smiled. “Sure.” The women all got up and walked to the stage, looking over the song choices and arguing before they found the perfect one. Mac stood in the front of the group, Loren and Sydney on one side and Harriet and Carolyn on the other. “This song is dedicated to the men in our lives,” she said before the song started. Carolyn: It’s such a mystery How you found something in me That I never knew was there But you uncovered it so easily Loren: You turned me like a season And I began to change You’ve wrapped you arms around me Now I’ll never be the same All: That’s how love works That’s how love moves Like a river running through you Sometimes it lifts you high as heaven It consumes you But that’s a given That’s how love moves Sydney: I’ve seen walls that could never be broken Come tumbling down I’ve heard the voice of love when it’s calling Without making a sound Harriet: See I was touched by an angel The day you took my hand You know that you’re the miracle That makes me everything I am All: That’s how love works That’s how love moves Like a river running through you Sometimes it lifts you high as heaven It consumes you But that’s a given That’s how love moves At the end of the song, and among applause, Loren and Sydney left the stage, queuing in the song that Mac, Harriet and Carolyn had chosen. “This is also for the men in our lives,” Mac said as the music started. Carolyn: I can feel the magic floatin’ in the air Being with you gets me that way I watch the sunlight dance across your face and I, oh I’ve Never been this way before Harriet: All my thoughts just seem to settle on the breeze When I’m lying wrapped up in your arms The whole world just fades away, the only thing I hear Is the beating of your heart All: And I can feel you breathe, it’s washing over me And suddenly I’m melting into you There’s nothing left the prove, baby all we need is just to be Caught up in the touch, the slow and steady rush And baby, isn’t that the way that love’s supposed to be I can feel you breathe Just breathe Mac: In a way I know my heart is waking up As all the walls come tumblin’ down Closer than I’ve ever felt before and I know and you know There’s no need for words right now All: And I can feel you breathe, it’s washing over me And suddenly I’m melting into you There’s nothing left the prove, baby all we need is just to be Caught up in the touch, the slow and steady rush And baby, isn’t that the way that love’s supposed to be I can feel you breathe Just breathe Mac: I can feel the magic floatin’ in the air Being with you gets me that way Carolyn exited the stage and walked back to her seat, and Mac exited, queued up Harriet’s song and stood by the machine, waiting to her turn. “For my husband,” Harriet said, “I love you!” “Diggin’ around, feelin’ so down Floatin’ around like a feather Nothin’ but me and all of my dreams Tryin’ to hold it together “Those were long days Long days indeed (Could not avoid, I felt my joy, no relief) “But everyone knows, when that’s how it goes It’s usually bound to get better So when you arrived, I looked in your eyes And all I could see was forever “What a fine day A fine day indeed (When you showed up, I fell in love, now look at me) “I got my baby I got those good times No lack of sunshine Baby I got you “Darlin’ I find you’re blowin’ my mind Every time that I hold you Better than gold, the deeper we go Nobody knows it like I do “These are sweet days Sweet days indeed (A love that flows, will always grow, now can’t you see) “I got my baby (you know that I do) I got those good times (oh yeah) No lack of sunshine Baby I got you Red hot and no blues Got no more bad news (no bad news) I got my baby Yeah, baby I got you Harriet walked off the stage and back to her seat, giving Bud a kiss when she got there, then turned to look at Mac on the stage. “These two songs are for the love of my life, who doesn’t know it, but I’m hoping he’ll figure it out by the time I’m done!” Right before the song started, Mac caught Harm’s eyes, and she kept the contact all through the song. “If I’m not in love with you What is this I’m going through, tonight And if this heart is lying then What should I believe in Why do I go crazy Every time I think about you baby Why else do I want you like I do If I’m not in love with you “And if I don’t need your touch Why do I miss you so much, tonight If it’s just infatuation Why is my heart achin’ To hold you forever Give a part of me I thought I’d never Give again to someone I could lose If I’m not in love with you “Oh why in every fantasy Do I feel your arms embracing me Like lovers lost in sweet desire And why in dreams do I surrender Like a little baby How do I explain this feeling Someone tell me “If I’m not in love with you What is this I’m going through, tonight And if this heart is lying then What should I believe in Why do I go crazy Every time I think about you baby Why else do I want you like I do If I’m not in love with you Mac waited nervously for her next song to come up, still watching Harm as he gaped at her. “When you start falling Who's gonna catch ya I'm willing to betcha It will be me Who's gonna love ya Like there's no other Search and discover It will be me “When all the others Have gone and hurt you Who won't desert you It will be me Weighing the options So much to think of But when you think love It will be me “You may not see it now Love is strange that way But someday, someway Baby somehow “When you've been broken And dreams don't oblige ya Who's that beside ya Oh, it will be me “Who'll be your only True romancer You know the answer It will be me What will it take to Bring you to your senses And finally convince you It will be me When Mac finished the song, she quietly put the mike down and walked back to the table, wondering what Harm was going to say. Harm stood up as Mac neared and placed his hand on her arm. “Mac?” he asked quietly. “Can we talk?” Mac nodded and they left the bar to take a walk. They had been walking in silence for about ten minutes before Mac couldn’t stand it any longer. “Say something, Harm,” Mac requested, quiet desperation in her voice. Harm sighed. “What would you have me say?” Mac felt tears burning her eyes. “Anything! Say you hate me, say you love me, say you’re leaving, say you’ll never leave! But just say something!” Harm was silent for a moment longer before speaking. “I could say that I love you and will never leave.” Mac felt the ‘but’ coming and her heart breaking. “But I don’t know how.” Harm turned to Mac and saw the confusion on her face. “Mac… Sarah… you told me that you love me in a song. In front of everybody. It seems so… insignificant for me to just say it plainly.” Mac laughed. “Harm, I don’t care how you say it! As long as you say it!” Harm smiled. “Well, then, Sarah, I’ll say it now. I love you. I have since I met you in the rose garden and I will forever. I’ll never leave you again. I promise.” Mac smiled and flung her arms around Harm’s neck. “Oh, Harm…” Their lips met on a soft and passionate kiss that spoke more than all the words in the world, for it spoke of pure, true love. The End
