The door opened and Tiner poked his head inside. "Excuse me, sir, but the Admiral wants everyone to meet outside the building at the flag pole for the ceremony." "What time is it, Tiner?" Harm asked, glancing at his watch. "1434, sir." "1434? Wow, the time just slipped away on me. I'll be along directly. Thank you, Tiner," Harm said. He got up from his chair, taking a second to stretch as he'd been sitting all morning since he'd gotten back from the staff meeting. Grabbing his cover from a nearby chair, he finally exited his office just as Mac was leaving hers. "Looks like we're the last ones out," he commented. Mac nodded. "It's 1433 and 15 seconds," she replied without glancing at her watch as always. "Then we'd better get outside before the Admiral chews our sixes out for being late," Harm replied. A moment later, they entered the elevator, and after another few seconds they were stepping out into the sunlight of a clear, sunny, beautiful day -- just has it had been six months ago when the worst act of terrorism the world had ever seen was committed. Outside, the entire JAG staff has already gathered when its last two senior officers joined their ranks. The senior staff, which included all of the court judges, was lined up before the flagpole with the enlisted personnel forming ranks behind them. Near the pole stood Admiral Chegwidden with a team representing both the Navy and the Marine Corps stood ready to raise the flag in this special ceremony, while a staff sergeant stood by, ready to play "TAPS" once the flag was raised. At 1437:45, Admiral Chegwidden issued an order, "Attention in ranks!" The ceremony began precisely at 1437:51 with exactly 189 seconds of silence for all the victims who died at the Pentagon, those who in the airplane being honored with those inside the building itself. After the silence was ended, the flag team proceeded to raise the United States flag to where it would fly high in the sky until sunset. Everyone present saluted as the flag was raised, and continued to salute as the mournful notes of "TAPS " was played. Everyone present fought back tears as memories of that day came to mind, as they thought of all the people lost because of hatred. After the last note had died down, the Admiral turned to face the company behind him. "Dismissed!" As everyone went back inside, the only sound heard was that of flag as it fluttered in the breeze above... The End Additional Notes: If the total number of those lost at the Pentagon is not correct, I apologize. Just to clarify things, it was 9:40 AM when American Flight 77, en route from Dulles Airport, Washington DC, to Los Angeles with 64 people onboard, crashed into the Pentagon.
