Title: Last Flight Out Author: Nicole Category: S, R [Harm/Mac] Rating: PG Spoilers: 'Boomerang,' 'Lifeline' Disclaimer: DPB is the genius, not me. Summary: Feedback: desired Archive: Ex Libris and BTL. Any others, please ask first. Author's Notes: the first time I heard this song by Plus One, I immediately thought of Harm and Mac. It's been rolling around in my head for a while now, but I was listening to the CD today and had to write the fic. BTW, Harm is a bit OoC and callous about Renee, but that's just how it turned out, sorry. Timeline: about half and hour after the end of 'Lifeline,' but Harm and Mac never kissed. Harm glanced at his watch and turned to AJ. "Admiral, how about putting on the radio? I know I, for one, would like to have a bit more variety." AJ considered for a moment before agreeing and Harm turned the CD player off and the radio on. Four minutes later, Harm approached Mac. "Hey, Mac, dance with me?" Mac glanced at Mic before replying, "Sure, Harm." Just then, the radio DJ said, "And here's to Sarah from the man who loves her. He says he's sorry for not speaking in the harbor and tonight, but the song says it all. Here it is, Last Flight Out by Plus One…" Harm held Mac close and quietly sang the song with the radio as they danced. _I'm so scared that you will see All the weakness inside of me I'm so scared of letting go That the pain I've hid will show_ As Mac listened to the words, she tensed in Harm's arms, knowing that Mic was watching them like a hawk and probably knew who dedicated the song to whom. _I know you want to hear me speak But I'm afraid that if I start to I'll never stop_ Mac pulled slightly away from Harm to look into his eyes. She saw the love and nervousness in the blue-green depths and she let her love of him shine in her eyes to reassure him, not caring that Mic was watching. _I want you to know You belong in my life I love the hope I see in you eyes For you I would fly At least I would try For you I'll take The last flight out_ Mac smiled and buried her face into Harm's neck as she heard him change the words of the song to "For you I wouldn't fly" and "For you I won't take." She sighed happily. _I'm afraid that You will leave As my secrets Have been revealed In my dreams You'll always stay Every breathing moment from now_ Mac thought about the verse, knowing that she would never leave and that Harm's secrets, for the most part, had already been revealed to her. _I know you want to hear me speak But I'm afraid that if I start to I'll never stop_ Mic and Renee met each other's eyes, knowing that both would be going home alone tonight. _I want you to know You belong in my life I love the hope I see in you eyes For you I would fly At least I would try For you I'll take The last flight out_ Harriet watched wide eyed as Harm declared his love for Mac through the song. She knew that they loved each other, but she never expected Harm to do this at Mac's engagement party! _I cannot hold back The truth no more I let you wait too long Although it's hard and scares me so A life without you scares me more_ Mac gasped and stared at Harm, tears filling her already liquid brown eyes. "Harm," she whispered, leaning up to kiss him lightly in the slight break of the song. _The last flight out For you I would fly (yeah) At least I would try (baby) For you I'll take (oh, I would take) The last flight out I want you to know You belong in my life (echo) I love the hope (echo) I see in you eyes (I see in your eyes, baby) For you I would fly (echo) At least I would try (echo) For you I'll take (echo) The last flight out_ As the song ended and Bud quietly switch off the radio, the room remained still, watching Harm and Mac. "I love you, Sarah," Harm whispered, "Please don't marry Brumby." Mac blinked, seemingly remembering her fiance. She pulled away from Harm and turned to Mic, missing the look of complete devastation on Harm's face. "Mic," Mac started to say before Mic cut her off. "I know, Sarah," Mic said, taking Mac's hand and pulling the ring off. "I think I knew all along." That said, Mic walked out of the house and Sarah MacKenzie's life forever. Mac watched Mic leave, then turned back to Harm. "I have loved you for so long," she whispered as she returned to his arms. Harm smiled. "I love you," he said again, leaning down to kiss Mac passionately. The moment was broken only by the quiet click of the door closing as Renee left. As Harm and Mac's lips parted, Mac's soft, "I love you," was drowned out by the cheers and whistles of the JAG officers.
