Some stories are hard to get through if Harm and Mac aren’t the main focus; but, in this case, please give it a chance. Have fun. Enjoy. Author’s Note: We as readers are going to have some fun at this as well. We, the readers, are happy average, ordinary people coming to TRG and BTL as our hobby and escape. This story was written to put us, for a change, as Harm’s interest just for a little while until he and Mac get it right. So, for a minute, maybe, we can have a fantasy come true with Harmon Rabb. This is a bit dramatic and long. (three parts) It does ramble some, there will be some typographical errors and it won’t sport the best of English, but hopefully it will spark something inside us. Sorry, for all the written music lyrics, but music is a part of the romance that goes along with this story. Hopefully, you have heard these songs. Please have patience and read on. An Ordinary Housewife – Part I Jaime Ross’s (that’s you!) new position started at JAG during the middle of the week. Everyone here looks as if they’re in the middle of not only their workweek, but their lives, law cases, friendships and loves. Jaime is just ordinary, new and nervous. Her new position deals with computerizing all the medical information. A non-military position. It’s an undertaking for sure. Why is she here? Well, she had a nice quite life on the East Coast raising four children, caring for elderly parents, sharing a life with her husband and working to pay the bills. Jaime’s husband has been gone for two years and her kids are in college. Being a young 40ish year old woman, she figured it was as good enough time as any to the next stage of her life. Because of all that or in spite of all that she lacks the confidence in herself to pull this off. Jaime’s physical and emotional well-being will be tested. New city, new job, new people. Jaime still carries the proverbial “weight of pregnancy” 23 years after the fact. She is trying to shed those pounds with a lot of exercise and dieting. She has scars from several operations; has migraines; is in the start of menopause and has all the other nasty stuff that comes with the 40’s. Self-conscious is her middle name. Jaime is in no way near the caliber of the women who take charge in the bullpen at JAG. They are all beautiful, energetic and confident. Jaime looks and feels ordinary. She was comfortable in the life she led, but now is trying to define her life in its second stage. Comfortable isn’t going to cut it anymore. Jaime was a regular housewife, nothing special, and nothing beautiful, just content with her life. Jaime’s thoughts repeat over and over her new philosophy of life. I must try to take better care of myself, try my hand at a new and exciting career, feel beautiful, feel sexy and feel romantic and passionate. I want to be more than an ordinary housewife. I need to feel alive again. First Day So far the Admiral and his assistant, Tiner have made Jaime’s transition here easy. The introductions start with Harriet and her husband Lieutenant Bud Roberts. Across the way is Colonel McKenzie’s office as well as Commander Turner’s office. Tiner also pointed out Commander Harmon Rabb’s office, too. He showed her around the floor and she met several other people. It will take some time to figure out who is who and how to get into the flow of working at JAG. Jaime’s day with starts with the painstaking task of creating files, both paper and computerized. Her assistants help to organize the work. Harriet and Jaime have lunch with the group. They sit in the cafeteria on the lst floor. Harriet, Bud, Mac join the table. They talk a lot about “Harm”. Jaime senses from everyone that they have much respect and endearment toward this man. From Mac there is something different. Her eyes light up at the mention of his name and at the same time there is sadness in her face. What that is all about? Back at her desk, Jaime overhears somewhat of a commotion in the bullpen; looking up to see Mac and this tall man face to face in a loud debate. Everyone continues working like this is an everyday event. Mac walks away from him and slams her office door. He yells “Maaac” and is one pace behind her. Harriet notices Jaime’s curiosity and thought she might fill her in on their unique relationship. “That was Harmon Rabb”, and she offered more to the story, “They have been partners for 7 years and are passionately in love with each other but haven’t found the right time to tell each other”, Harriet explained. She also talked about the people they dated, the marriage that never happened with Mac, the near death experiences, the trips around the world, the danger, the courtroom drama. Unique isn’t the word for them!! Jaime thought about having someone so terrific in her life and not be able to be with him. He is a wonderful looking man. Actually, he is gorgeous, almost perfect, as she tries to get a closer look at him. Why do I even look, there is no way any man looking like that would ever look at a woman like me, was Jaime’s first thought. Harriet is right, though; Harm and Mac look like they are made for each other. Anyone can tell, even a person as new as Jaime, how much they love each other. Later that day, mesmerized by the load of files on her desk, someone knocked on the door and she didn’t even hear it. He knocked louder until it startled her. Jaime finally looked up and it was Harm. “Hey” as he comes in and extends his hand, “Sorry to disturb your concentration. My name is Harmon Rabb, call me Harm. I understand you are working on the medicals?” “Hi, I’m Jaime Ross, nice to meet you” she extends her hand. Harm firmly grasped her hand and Jaime was stunned by his warmth and gentleness. He smiled again. “Jaime, JR, so you’re rescuing the medical mess, huh?” “Yea, it’s time consuming but not too difficult. JR?” as she glanced at the mess of files on the desk, then back to Harm, questioning the nickname. “Yea, it’s a catchy name. Where you from?” he inquired. “I’m from the East Coast. Sox fan – not the Yankees”. She immediately defined herself. Harm raised his eyebrow and he laughed. “A woman sports fan? There aren’t too many around here!!” he chuckled. “Are you being sexist or are you afraid a woman may know more about sports than you?” Jaime felt herself blush at the forward statement. “No, Maaam” he said emphasing his words, “just not used to it. What sports do you follow?” He seemed almost interested at this point. “I like watching my hometown teams, basketball, baseball and football. Hockey if it is a good year. Yes, I even know all the players and the rules!” she said, trying not to be too pushy. “Wow, no JAG females around here like it that much”. “I’m outnumbered, I know. I hope to see some of my games televised in this area.” She could tell he needed to go. Why would he want to talk with me anymore? Confidence level ZERO. “Good luck with your teams, just don’t beat ours. Take care. See ya later” and off he went. Is Mac nuts? One could fall in love with this guy at first sight. They have been partnered for 7 years and nothing has happened? I can’t worry about their love life. I have none of my own, but I have more than enough work to keep me busy and that was all that filled Jaime’s mind, for now. Some Weeks Later Jaime seems to enjoy her new coworkers. She really shouldn’t consider herself that new after being here for 3 months. Harriet and Bud are so great together. They balance work and family so well. Mac and Harm still have the most confusing relationship Jaime has ever seen. I know I have been out of the dating loop for quite a while, but even this is baffling to me, she thought again. Mac has been so friendly, but never talks about Harm except when it comes to work. Harm has been friendly, too, and he teases Jaime a bit about their sports teams. She does look forward to talking with him about the games. Once in a while when Mac is gone on a case he will sit with her at lunch. She finds it hard to believe he even looks her way. Their conversations run from sports, music, recipes, movies and more sports. He encourages her with exercising and eating habits. Harm, she finds out, is a fitness freak. Jaime never intended to open up to him at all, but he makes it so easy. But when their conversations come to Mac, Harm talks about her with such tenderness in his eyes and at the same time the same sadness that is evident in her face. This is almost tragic what they are doing to each other. Someone should do or say something, but it is none of anyone’s business. Work keeps everyone around JAG going at least 8 to 10 hours a day. Jaime walks at lunch and rides her bike at home as often as she can, keeping a promise she made to herself before arriving at her new job. Thank God I am alone, though, I am too tired to “entertain” a significant other, Jaime frequently confesses to herself. Even so, I would love to really socialize with these new, interesting people. “Hey, wait up” yelled Harm Jaime was well into her walk at lunch. She enjoyed the day, brisk but not windy. Her walking path came complete with beautiful scenery. Fresh air and delightful landscape made daily walks more enjoyable. Her headphones blanked out most noise, but she turned around as she thought someone was calling after her. She turned to see Harm running to meet her. “What’s up” Jaime asked very surprised to see Harm. “I thought I would walk with you.” Harm said out of breath. “Isn’t your thing running at lunch?” “Yea, I just finished a short run and I saw you out here so I thought I’d keep you company.” Harm was dressed in a nice maroon-jogging suit. As usual he looks handsome. Jaime suddenly wished lunch wasn’t almost over. “Mind sitting for a minute so I can catch my breath” Harm asked. “Tired already, huh?” Jaime laughed “Tired, I just ran 5 miles” Harm exclaimed as he actually laid down on the bench, leaving just a little room for Jaime. “OK, you got me there” Jaime replied apologetically. “How are things going at the office?” Harm wondered. “Great, I am really enjoying the people and the work. I do have a lot of work. The files are in shambles” “Maybe you can relax this weekend.” Harm suggested “Speaking of this weekend, Harm, what’s your opinion about me inviting everyone over to watch the 6:00 game on Sunday? Do you think they would be interested?” “Sure, hey, wait that’s your team. Oh forget it.” Harm said with a serious face. Jaime quickly looked away, embarrassed that she even brought it up. She had a sinking feeling that she wasn’t ever going to be part of “them” a non-military person and all. Harm sat up quickly and put his hand on Jaime’s shoulder and laughing at her at the same time “Jaime, really, I’m only kidding. I’m sure everyone would love to go. We don’t socialize enough together, ya know, to get away from JAG.” “Harm, don’t tease. I’m sensitive you know” Jaime now laughed at herself after seeing Harm’s innocent smile. She was now very excited over the prospect of planning this for the weekend. They got up from the bench and walked together to JAG talking non stop about the possibility of a win Sunday for Jaime’s team. So, now that Jaime decided to break the ice and invite the group over for football on Sunday. She wanted everything to be perfect. She made a spread of Italian food. Spaghetti, meatballs, antipasto, bread, desserts and drinks were all prepared early enough that if anything went wrong she would have time to fix it. All she had to do was to make the appetizers and finish cleaning. Jaime heard her doorbell ring, not quite knowing who could be at her door this early in the day. “Hey, how are you? This is for you” Harm handed Jaime a bottle of wine. Harm entered the apartment and noticed how homey, warm and nice the place is. “Harm, thank you for the wine. Everyone will enjoy it today.” Jaime exclaimed. “It’s nice that you came early. Are you here to help clean and peel vegetables?” Harm mistakenly confused the time of the game with the start of the early pre-game show. “What? Early? Oh, no” he stopped and looked at his watch, “I did I mess that up?” “Don’t worry. Here, start peeling” Jaime ordered. Jaime put the wine on ice and Harm rolled up his sleeves, peeled the vegetables she gave him and placed them on the platter. Jaime welcomed his help. Jaime noticed how handsome he is in civilian clothes. She doesn’t get to see him like that to often. It almost makes her a little nervous. Jaime catches herself staring and knows she shouldn’t. She discovers that he is very domesticated. No a trait she would’ve pegged him for. To her surprise, though, he didn’t come with Mac. But, when she did arrive, Harm sat by her side all afternoon. Little AJ was so cute. Bud, Tiner and the Admiral had some laughs. No one talked “shop” all day. It was nice to see everyone relax and not be a “JAG” for an afternoon. “This meal’s great, Jaime. Reminds me of old-fashioned cooking, beef stew, spaghetti and meatballs, hot dogs and beans. I just love it.” beamed the Admiral. “I agree, Sir, it reminds me of Mom’s home cooking. Nice job, JR” Harm complimented with everyone else nodding in approval. Just like me, I thought to myself ‘I’m just like Mom’, old fashioned, etc, etc. I guess should take it as a compliment even though it puts me right where I don’t want to be. “Everything is delicious, Jaime. Heh, why does Harm call you JR?” inquired Mac, smacking him on the arm. “Beats me. Hey, look who is winning the game!!” Jaime gleamed as her team scored the third touchdown of the day. “World Champs or what?” and with that comment several debates stirred among the group. Jaime joined Harriet and Mac, away from the TV, hoping to get to know them better. “This is a wonderful time. Thanks for having us over” Harriet said sincerely. “Yea, it’s nice to forget about work for a while, but now I do have to go home and go over some cases” confessed Mac. Everyone urged Mac to stay commenting that she was working way to hard as usual. She knew what she had to do and no one would change her mind. Harm seemed very disappointed that she left. He walked her out and surprisingly returned. The game was over before anyone realized. Baby AJ was asleep on the floor amongst his toys. Bud scooped him up in his arms as they left. Everyone thanked Jaime for a wonderful afternoon and filtered out. Harm seemed to linger and asked once everyone was gone if he could help clean up. “Sure, but I thought you would have cases to work on, too.” Jaime said as she moved towards the kitchen. “I do, but, man, just for one day I’d like to forget the legal work?” He seemed overly frustrated as he filled his wine glass. Was it Mac’s exit or work that was getting to him? Harm continued, following her into the kitchen, “This day has been so enjoyable. I forgot about work and just had a great time with the guys… oh, and ladies of course”, nodding toward Jaime. “I’m glad I came early. I enjoyed helping you and I enjoyed our talks.” Harm hesitated for a moment as he thought to himself how energizing their conversations were. Harm confessed, “Ya know, even when I was pilot, and everyone knows that was my life’s dream, there would be days I would want to just get away. Now there are some days I don’t want to think about law, or Jag, I just want to be a regular guy” he said as if he were thinking out loud. “Wow, most days I don’t want to be a regular, I want to be someone special.” Jaime dared to admit it to him. Harm looked back at Jaime quickly “My God, JR, you are someone special. Look what you did for your coworkers today. Think about how challenging your new job is. You have a new apartment, new surroundings, all new people to get to know, you are separated from your family and you smile every day like you have no cares. Harm continued with his lecture “We all relaxed today. It’s hard to find the time for that because JAG is such a demanding job. JAG can be 24/7. It takes a toll on you after a while. Days can be 14 hours long. Jaime, do you realize how refreshing it is for you to see us as regular people and not as Admirals or Colonels or Commanders? You know I feel like I’ve known you all my life. And if you weren’t someone special, Harmon Rabb, Jr., would never have offered to help clean up!” he said proudly while noticing the bottle of wine was empty. He tossed the bottle in the trash. Jaime stared at him in amazement. She has only heard him talk that much in court, and never expressing his personal feelings. This was a long lecture from him, but one that certainly would not be forgotten. “That was the nicest thing anyone could have said to me. Harm, all the jobs at JAG seem so glamorous. I never thought of the demands that go along with it. It’s funny, you feel too special and I don’t feel special enough. It’s been so long since I’ve been special to anyone. So long…” Jaime stopped and looked out the garden window over the sink, noticing the glow from the moon and thinking that it actually has been years since real love was at her fingertips. It’s been years since someone kissed her passionately, been years since someone.… well; it’s been a long time. Harm went over near Jaime and stared out the window, too. “It’s been a long time since someone just looked at me like a regular guy with no complications,” he whispered. Jaime felt him near her and it made her nervous. They stood there for what seemed like an hour, but a minute past and Harm suggested they turn on the post game show and get the kitchen cleaned up. Together they washed dishes and put the food away and watched the game celebrations. They finally sat down with some tea and another piece of dessert. Harm took the remote and clicked his way around the TV. “Are you being a typical male hogging the remote or don’t you own a TV yourself,” Jaime laughed. “No, I don’t own one” he answered never taking his eyes off the TV. “Ya right, who in the world doesn’t have a TV?” she said sarcastically. Jaime could tell by the look that came over his face that he really didn’t. “Wow, you’re serious, aren’t you?” “Hey, there are more important things to do that watch TV.” he defended himself. “I don’t think so. There’s nothing like coming home at the end of a day and watching a good comedy, or a movie or a game”, and she tried to entice him into jumping to the ‘other side’. Harm waved his hand at her as if to say ‘No Way”. They sat on the couch, drinking tea and watching station after station. Finally, he looked at the time. “I’ve been here for 9 hours straight and I didn’t even realize it!” he turned to Jaime and smiled. “I better go, we both have to get up for work in the morning”, he rose with the remote still in his hand. They moved slowly to the door. “Harm, do you think you could part yourself from my remote control? The TV doesn’t work too well without it” Jaime crossed her arms as if to scold him. “Um, here, keep it safe”, he joked. His face then took a serious tone and he placed his hands on her arms, “Jaime, I had a wonderful day today, no, I’ve had the best day I’ve had in a long, long time. Thank you very much.” He kissed her on the cheek and walked out the door. Harm stood at the door he just closed and smiled. “Wow” he whispered to himself. I didn’t want to leave. I watched a couple of football games, ate some great food and I feel wonderful. What is wrong with you, Rabb? Just a simple day and you act like JR gave you a million bucks! He couldn’t have asked for more. Harm smiled, as he looked back at the door, knowing that behind that door he escaped from his world for a while. He shook his head and walked away. Jaime finished putting the mugs in the dishwasher and thought back to what Harm said. He doesn’t appear to be the type of guy who exposes his inner self to too many people. He did seem genuinely happy today, though, and he readily admitted it. She actually felt good, too, just like he did, about the day. She felt like one of the group, a friend and even a bit special. On the other hand, she is pushing to the back of her mind how nice it felt to have a man standing so close to her, sitting next to her on the couch and sharing conversations with. Its’ been so long…. too long. Harm returned home still thinking about his day. He picked up the phone and called Mac to see if she was done with her work. He didn’t feel right telling her he just had gotten home himself hours after she left. Then he called JR. “Hey, JR, it’s me, Harm. I hope I didn’t disturb you.” “No, no, I was just tidying up and securing my remote to the TV with a padlock.” “Very funny” Harm’s voice was very soft. “I was just calling to say thank you again and I’ll see you in work tomorrow.” “Your welcome and yes, see you tomorrow.” Harm hung up the phone, tapping it with his fingers. He lay back in his bed and thought about JR. “Man, what am I doing”? He rolled over and went to sleep. Back to work The next week at work proved to be interesting. Jaime felt better each day, a little more spark flared up inside her. Why, who knows? Harm and Mac were in and out on cases all week. Harriet and Jaime kept each other company at lunch when Bud was busy with court. Things were going well for the newest JAG employee. This particular Thursday evening everyone gathered at McMurphy’s. Jaime was even included. JAG had a couple tables near the pool table. Jaime felt it was so nice to be out and socializing. Food and drinks were ordered. Tiner and the Admiral were shooting pool, Bud and Harriet and Harm and Mac were dancing to one of many slow dances of the evening. Jaime noticed how much in love Bud and Harriet are and it’s so fun to watch them together. Harm and Mac didn’t have any air space between them. Their friends would like to shake them into tomorrow for not admitting their feelings for each other. They danced in their own world. They weren’t aware of anything or anyone around them. They are so blessed to have a great love and so “stupid” not to act on it. It feels good to have Mac in my arms. Harm’s thoughts drifted as he and Mac held each other on the dance floor, not caring who was watching. I could stay like this all night he thought. Nothing else exists at times like this. I wonder if she feels the same. It can sense that she does by her touch and smile. But I don’t know…. it can be so complicated with her and it shouldn’t be. Song after song played, game after game of pool continued through the evening. Suddenly, Jaime started feeling very out of place. “I need air” she realized. Was she having an anxiety attack, no, it was more a confidence attack. I don’t match up to anyone here. Stylish clothes, shapely figures, attractive guys holding their girls close. She had to leave. Jaime said a quick goodbye to Tiner who was sitting next to her and left. Once in her car she just let it all out and cried. The specific reason isn’t known, but she cried all the way to her apartment. The picture of Harm dancing with Mac stuck in her mind. She thought back to how well the evening was going until she felt ill. Jaime felt self conscious about her appearance and the “extra” pounds she carried. She ignored it all these years, but now it bothers her terribly. Also, she finally admitted to herself that, yes, her thoughts and eyes kept wandering to Harm. Watching him, his smile, his eyes and his movements. This was ridiculous. I can never, ever have him in my dreams, she told herself. His heart belongs to Mac and everyone knows it. Shape up Ross; he is off limits and you are not the worldly woman that he would be attracted to anyway. At the end of the evening, Harm drove Mac home, hoping something more will come of the evening. Harm admired her beauty as he looked at her from the corner of his eye. “Mac, do you have an early morning tomorrow?” hoping she’ll say no and invite him up. “In fact, yes, I have to be at the Pentagon by 0800 for an all day meeting. I won’t be in the office at all tomorrow.” “Mac, where’s the fire? Meeting about what, a national emergency or something?” he responded with an attitude. “That’s classified. No use prodding me, I won’t spill” Mac was determined to drop the subject. “Thanks for the fun tonight, Harm, it was nice, goodnight.” Mac gave him at quick kiss on the cheek, took a long look at him and left his car. Harm was so hurt. “Nice, she says? Nice? What am I a substitute prom date? What the hell is so important that she has to spend 8 hours at the Pentagon anyway?” The Next Night Friday night officially starts the weekend. Ugh, another weekend with nothing planned. Jaime decided to stay late to wrap up some last minute things. She finally put herself in check after last night’s quick exit from McMurphy’s bar. Admiral Cheggwhidden came and knocked on her door well after everyone had left for the weekend. He never leaves until around 7ish himself. “Commander Rabb and I are finishing up with a case and we’ll be leaving soon. So wrap up your work and have a nice weekend,” the Admiral says smiling. Jaime smiled back. “Thank you, Sir. As a matter of fact, I’m on my way out the door. You have a wonderful weekend, too.” He’s so great. A father figure, sensitive but firm. I enjoy listening to him talk at staff meetings. One can’t help but listen to his every word. Riding down in the elevator Jaime realized she left her walking sneakers at her desk. The doors open in the lobby, feeling ridiculous; she rode back up to her floor. Once the doors open again she heard two people engaged in a heated argument. Jaime quickly gathered that they are husband and wife. He’s a navy man. She hesitated for a minute at the elevator to actually comprehend what was unfolding directly in front of her. This couple’s argument progressed into a violent rage. The man struck his wife and she fell back into Jaime. Jaime reached for her and the man pulled a gun and shot three times, striking both the women. They fell to the floor. Jaime lay still, but kept an eye on the man as he checked for his wife’s pulse. Luckily, he only glanced Jaime’s way, maybe assuming she was as bad off as his wife. He did reach over and ripped off her id badge before heading to the elevator to escape the crime he just committed. Jaime could hear the women’s troubled breathing. This, woman, she thought, could be near death. They needed help and they needed it now. “Rabb, did you hear shots”, the Admiral screamed as he raced through the bullpen. Harm was already armed and making his way toward the sounds. Harm had his gun aimed at the bodies on the floor but knew it was useless. He realized these were the victims. He quickly checked the elevators and banged on the doors in anger that he couldn’t apprehend who ever did this. The Admiral used his cell phone to call security. Jaime lifted her head and only then did Harm realize who it was and that at least one victim was alive. The pain was unbearable and Jaime was bleeding from her shoulder. “Dam, my hand is numb” Jaime barely whispered as she tried to move. Harm hurried over to her, kneeling down next to her. He used his t-shirt on her arm to stop the bleeding. Even in pain and scared, Jaime noticed how well built Harm is as he took off his shirt. She had to keep herself from staring at his chest and arms. His strong muscles were proof of how physically in shape he keeps himself. Even now, Jaime feels embarrassed by her neglected figure. She did keep in mind, though, that she made a promise to herself to turn things around and get back to somewhat of a girlish figure. Harm helped her sit up against the wall, holding the bloody shirt gently, but firmly on her shoulder until the ambulance arrived. “My God, Jaime, the ambulance is coming. We thought you left,” said the Admiral who also knelt by her side. “Is she dead?” she nodded toward the woman. Jaime didn’t really want to know, but the woman was alive one minute and now so quiet. “Yea, JR, she is. Can you remember what happened?” Harm was afraid of the answer and Jaime was afraid to relive it. “Yea, I came back up because I forgot my sneakers. The doors opened and they were arguing, in a split second he pushed her into me and then pulled a gun. It happened so fast. I couldn’t get out of the way quick enough. We both fell and I laid still so he would think I was dead or something. He checked her pulse and pulled off my id badge, then left. God, he left us here bleeding to death.” at this point Jaime could feel the tears building up, some escaping down her cheek. “You took a direct hit in the shoulder, but she took it in the heart. JR, this couple was just in my office. He is divorcing her and asked me for representation. I got roped into this one, a long story. It must have come to a head and you got in the middle of it. God, Jaime, I am so sorry”, Harm pulled her closer and just felt awful that his friend was injured because of what he thought was his carelessness. “I should have walked them out to make sure nothing like this would’ve happened,” he said soberly. “Harm, there was no way you could have known.” Jaime said closing her eyes and lying her head into his arm. The pain was intense. “JR, did you say he took your id?” the Admiral asked. She nodded her head. Harm noticed the concern on the Admiral’s face. “Mr. Rabb”, as he sometime addressed Harm, “you know if this man, his name please--”. “Ashton, Randall Ashton” Harm informed him. “--isn’t caught that he will be after the two of you again. Jaime is now a witness to murder and even though you are bound by confidentiality, he may want you both out of the picture. “What are you suggesting, Sir?” Harm asked quizzingly. The Admiral’s cell phone rang. He stood to answer it, “Cheggwidden” After a few moments, the Admiral hung up and turned to Jaime and Harm with concern in his eyes, “Security has notified us that Commander Ashton has eluded the guards. They haven’t found Jaime’s ID. We know that he has both your names and Jaime’s id info. “This is turning into a dangerous situation, Sir, especially for Jaime” Harm said as he looked at her again. Jaime wasn’t even listening. She just wanted the pain to stop. The ambulance arrived to take her to the hospital. “I know, Commander”, the Admiral responded to his statement and shook his head in exasperation, “When she is released from the hospital, you two will have to be guarded and watched 24/7. I want you safe, but I want to use you both as bait, too. You know what has to be done, Rabb. Say, go with Jaime now and I’ll be there soon. I’ll make the arrangements.” Harm agrees. He notices tears in her eyes. “Yea, I’ll stay with her. I can’t let her down again,” he says to the Admiral. Then he silently plans how to take care of this mess. In the ambulance, Harm smiles give her a confident look. Even under these circumstances, she thought, when I look at him, I notice that he is a man who can speak with his eyes and his facial _expression. He has a beautiful face. Still, doesn’t he ever get rattled? He always looks so confident. I’m a wreck. Harm paces the ER and keeps hounding the nurse to let him in. Finally they lead him to her room. Jaime was so surprised to see him still there. Why would he stay so long? He looks rather worried. For me? she wondered. “Hey, Jaime, how are you?” He says in a soft concerned voice as he sits on the bed and takes her hand. “Ok, I guess. They got the bullet out of my shoulder. What are the odds that I couldn’t even get shot on my right side? Only lefties suffer this fate,” she moans, “A couple of ribs are bruised, too.” Jaime didn’t want him seeing her like this. She turned her head from him and the tears just flowed. “Hey, Hey, Shhhh, Don’t cry. I’ll help you” Harm whispered. Harm has such a unique, special tone to his voice. He can talk loud and forceful, but his whispers and hushed soft tones are not only seductive, but mesmerizing, too. His whispered words sent shivers through Jaime. Just like the look in his eyes. His eyes, coupled with his soft voice, make it hard to ignore how perfect this man is. His hands, too, are tender but big and strong. Jaime felt protected when he held her after the shooting. Most men (and women) who have this much beauty fail because they are too full of themselves. Not Harm, he is as perfect a person as he is handsome. Harm reached over, lifted Jaime slightly off the bed and held her close to him. She cried in his arms. He hushed her sobs with his deep warm voice and his hands stroked her back. Her head lay on his chest. “Harm, it happened so fast. I couldn’t even react. That poor woman didn’t have a chance, did she?” Jaime sobbed. “JR, you were at the wrong place at the wrong time. I should have separated them in the first place. I just didn’t think- -, Harm hesitated and got choked up himself. “Don’t think about it. It’s over”. Harm says trying to keep the sound of confidence in his voice. “Ahmm”. The Admiral was at the door. Harm didn’t get up, but let Jaime lay back down on the bed. “Jaime, the doctors say you will be fine. You’re staying overnight for observation, right?” said the Admiral very concerned. She nodded. “I have some news for the two of you. There is an APB out on Commander Ashton for murder and assault. We assume he will want to silence the two of you.” Harm acknowledges his statement, and was very concerned about the news that his guy is still the loose. Jaime still feels frightened even with Harm here to help her. Harm notices this and held her hand. “Sir, what happens now? Jaime will be one handed with the ‘wrong hand’ for a couple of weeks so she can’t work for a while; plus I think she is a little traumatized by the whole ordeal” Harm informed the Admiral. Jaime glared at Harm for pointing that out. I feel like a chump unable to handle a crisis, she quickly thought. What am I saying? Reality is - I can’t handle this. He’s right. “Well, we are all traumatized by this”, Harm said trying to smooth over his last statement. “Don’t worry. It’s all set”. We both looked at him and knew something was up. “Commander Rabb, since you and Ms. Ross both need protecting, you will be sharing her apartment and guards will be posted until he is caught. This will keep you both in safely in one place, but attract him to go after the two of you. Something like a two for one deal. Computers and phone lines will be installed for both of you to continue to do work at home. I chose Jaime’s place because I noticed there are two bedrooms and a large living room for you to conduct your work.” the Admiral said in a tone that we knew was his final word on the matter. Still, both of them protested because of the intimate sharing of space until Mac, Bud and Sturgis walked in the room. “Harm!” Mac rushed to him and he rose off the bed and gave her a quick hug. Bud and Sturgis looked concerned and they asked what seemed like a million questions about what happened. Harm gave them an accurate account. Jaime was much too tired to talk and actually hoped for some rest. “Mr. Roberts and Commander Turner, tomorrow at 0800 you will start investing Commander Ashton and his now deceased wife. I want to know everything about the divorce, what they own, who their family and friends are and even the cat’s name,” dictated the Admiral. “Yes, Sir”, they said in unison. “Harm, we need to talk outside. Jaime, I hope you are feeling better and I’m so glad it wasn’t more serious,” Mac said. “Thanks, Mac. Me too” Everyone was leaving and Jaime thanked them for caring so much. She even joked about what a wimp she can be when it comes to pain and they are all in for an ear full. They left and she welcomed the quiet. Jaime figured Harm left with Mac, so some much needed sleep came quick. Out in the hall, Harm and Mac stood close together away from view. Finally, Mac was able to tell Harm about the meeting at the Pentagon. His reaction was pure frustration. “Mac, why you? Does this have something to do with your meeting today?” Harm groaned. “Harm, it’s a TAD for only 3 months. It will give me more of a chance to get a feel for sea life. You have always told me I should experience it.” Mac pleaded. “Mac, maybe together, someday, and not just you alone. We said we would start at the beginning. How can we if we can’t see each other?” Harm could feel the anger rise within him. “Harm, we can e-mail and call and you know the Admiral will send you out to the Seahawk at some point.” Mac was still trying to make him understand. She knew he was losing patience. “That’s not like being close to you, having dinner with you, seeing you at your desk. Who will I go when…when…?” “When you want to debate a fact or finding? I’m sure you will find someone else to annoy.” Mac laughed. Harm didn’t find this amusing at all. He cupped his hand to her cheek and Mac immediately looked into his eyes. “I need you here. Please don’t go,” he begged. “I have to Harm. Just like you had to go away to the Patrick Henry to fly tomcats.” Mac wished she didn’t say it like that. It came out different that what she actually meant. “Why do you always have to bring up the past? It only complicates things.” Harm was now on the brink of rage. “Why can you do things and always justify them, but I can’t? I was just trying to make a point,” Mac said angrily. Harm looked deep into her eyes, almost pleading. Mac could feel the tears come to her eyes. Harm grabbed her by the arms and kissed her so wanting it almost knocked her over. She kissed him back and locked her hands behind his neck so they would never let each other go. Harm felt so much love for her and her for him. Finally, they pulled back and looked at each other. Mac touched her lips as they still stung from his kiss. Harm hugged her. “Mac, I want a future with you. I couldn’t bear it if you left” Mac broke his grip and looked surprised. “Harm, we have had 7 years. I have come to you more than once and you turned me away. Now, now that I have to leave you say you want me?” “Me, turn you away? Who ran on the first TAD after your broken engagement? I even followed you and you wouldn’t talk about us” he raised his voice at her. “Because there were no us. Harm, maybe we need this time away to think” Mac said startled at his anger. “I don’t want to talk about this anymore. I want you,” demanded Harm. Mac was stunned. Was this an affirmation of love or just another line? “Harm, I want… I want…..” “You want what, Mac?” Harm’s voice turned was so soft and hushed. Mac felt like screaming her love, but knew she had to tread lightly. She didn’t want a repeat of the ferry in Sydney or the Admiral’s porch for that matter. She wanted more of a plan between them. She wanted him to say it; to say he loved her and plan to actually put things together when she returned. “I think we want the same thing, but don’t know how to put it all in place. This is it Harm, when we meet again, after some time away, we better be ready to spill it all. It will be then or never.” She reached up and kissed him again and left quickly to the elevators. She yelled back to him “I am leaving at 0600 tomorrow morning. I’ll be in touch.” Harm was left standing alone in the hallway, stunned. He felt like she came back into his life and left just as fast. He can’t believe this is happening again. How could he go through this separation from her and the anxiety it causes again. He told her he wanted her. Why wouldn’t she accept that as a start? He closed his eyes and wanted to cry. Hell, a Jag lawyer and Navy pilot can’t cry. We have to be perfect and stoic. Parts of a song kept ringing in his ear by Phil Collins… How can I just let you walk away? Just let you leave without a trace When I stand here taking Every breath with you You’re the only one who really knew me at all How can you just walk away from me? When all I can do is watch you leave ‘Cause we’ve shared the laughter and the pain and even shared the tears You’re the only one who really knew me at all… I wish I could just make you turn around Turn around and see me cry There’s so much I need to say to you So many reasons why, You’re the only one who really knew me at all… So take a look at me now ‘cause there’s just an empty space And there’s nothing left here to remind me just the memory of your face… But to wait for you is all I can do And that’s what I’ve got to face Take a good look at me now ‘cause I’ll still be standing here And you coming back to me is against all odds… That’s the chance I’ve got to take…. Take a look at me now…. These words ate at his heart. “To hell with all this”, he found himself talking aloud. A nurse walked by and asked him if he needed help. “No, I need intervention from above”, he said sarcastically. He remembered he never said goodbye to JR. He walked slowly back to her room and found her sleeping. He sat in the chair next to her. Harm noticed the bruises that were more evident on her face and arms. She has been at Jag just a short while and has to face this trauma. She wasn’t even around months ago when this case appeared on his desk. He noticed Jaime wasn’t a knockout kinda woman. He studied her while she slept. She’s a bit overweight, not real tall, but her smile and personality are so attractive. She pulls you in with her warmth. Jaime is a regular person. Harm knew he meant that in a good way He smiled knowing how hard she was working losing weight. He also began to see inside her. He admired the mature wisdom she owned together with a great sense of humor. There is nothing false about her. She is comfortable to be with. Harm realized that he’s been somewhat drawn to her. Yes, I love Mac above all, but Jaime is different, he thought. She treats me like I have no history. Nothing gets in the way, no baggage, no complications. We talk about matters of life in general, it’s fun and loose. I feel freed from my problems when I’m with her. God, what am I thinking? There is nothing like Mac. We will get through this and be together. I will never let her go again. I can’t stand being away from her. I need her so much. I can’t imagine my life without her. All these thoughts raced through Harm’s mind. Jaime groaned in pain and suddenly woke up. She didn’t quite know where she was. “JR, it’s me Harm. You’re all right. Wake up.” Harm pleaded as he tried to calm her. Her eyes opened and she struggled against his touch until she realized it was actually him. “Oh, Harm, I was so scared. I must’ve been dreaming about what happened.” She fell back against the pillow and covered her face with her hands obviously in pain. “Do you want more medication?” “Yea, just push the button. It does it automatically. What time is it?” She looked around for her glasses and the clock. She put her glasses on, but still couldn’t focus correctly. “It’s around one in the morning.” Wow, it seems strange to tell someone the time. Mac always used her internal clock. “What are you still doing here? I thought you left with Mac.” “No, Mac has an early plane out to the Seahawk. She has TAD for the next 3 months”. “What? She is leaving for 3 months”, Jaime said with amazement. Harm couldn’t even reply. He felt the empty pit at the bottom of his stomach. “Harm, again why aren’t you going after her? If I can use your own military term ‘With all due respect’ are you a fool or what?” Harm was looking down at his hands not wanting JR to see how upset he was. Then he looked up and sharply glared at her. Jaime was taken back by his stare. She had never seen him this mad before. “I’m sorry”, JR said. “I was out of line. That is your personal business and none of mine. Please, forgive me. You’re here to help me and I interfered, sorry”. “For your information, Jaime” Harm blurted out, “I tried. I told her I wanted her and wanted her to stay. Anyway, how do you know how I feel?” “Come on, Harm, everyone in Jag knows how you and Mac feel about each other. I have only been around a short time and I knew the first time I saw you two together”. “What do you mean how Mac feels?” “She loves you, too, Harm. Can’t you see that?” “No,” he actually thought about it, “No…” he said again, “how could I ever tell? She stops me when I get close enough” “Well, I think the blame is split 50/50 and you two are foolish not to hold onto the only person in the world you could love. You both survived a near death experience and you still can’t go to each other? Someday, Harm, it will be too late and then what?” Jaime looked right at him and he could tell she was not just talking about their situation. It was something deep within her. “You talk like it’s from experience.” “Yea, well, I don’t want to talk anymore at all” Jaime said as she tried to find a comfortable position in the hospital bed. “Fine, I don’t want to discuss Mac anymore, either. Feeling bad for talking a bit cross-toned, Harm gently asked, “How’s the pain now, does it feel any better?” “I’m a little drowsy from the pain med, but I am afraid to close my eyes. It’s always right there, Harm, the gun, the pain and that poor woman” “Shhhh”, he says while deciding to stay the night. “I’ll stay while you sleep and take you home in the morning”. “You shouldn’t sleep in the chair. Go home and get a good nights rest. I’ll be ok”. “No, just close your eyes”. Harm gets himself a pillow and blanket and settles in the chair, moving it closer to the bed. He fixes the pillow that propped up her arm. Jaime finally closes her eyes and Harm leaned over to gently stroke her hair off her face. He puts her glasses on the nightstand and they both slept. He never left her side all night. Jaime’s dreams started so nice. I was with a man, but there was no face. I wanted this man. I could feel excitement, passion. I wanted to be held and touched by him, but I still couldn’t see his face. It has been so long since I have been kissed, held close or made love to. This man left through a doorway to nowhere and next came in Commander Ashton. Jaime pushed Harm’s hand off her head and tried to sit up. The pain instantly seared through her arm and shoulder. Harm jumped up from his chair to her side. “JR, hold on. Your ok.” “Sorry. Nightmares again.” Jaime could barely get the words out. She tried to get back to sleep. Morning came too soon after she finally dozed off. The doctor signed the release and gave them the medical instructions. Rest and medication for the shoulder and more rest for the ribs. No housework or work for a couple of weeks. (I have waited years for someone to tell me no housework and it comes now?) Feeling groggy and uncomfortable, she gets dressed to go home. Then Harm and Jaime drive off in silence, still feeling awkward regarding their conversation about Mac. Harm, she suspects, is missing Mac already. He stops at the store for food and medicine and they arrive at Jaime’s apartment as ordered by the Admiral. It was all set up just like he said it would be. Harm’s belongings were moved in, too. Harm pointed out where the guards were stationed. Jaime felt a lot better seeing them there. They both want this to be over. Jaime wishes for the pain in her shoulder to go away. Mostly, she is very afraid of having Harm this close because she could easily start to feel things she shouldn’t. “Maybe I should stay ordinary” she thought. “The risk is too great for my heart.” What will the next few weeks hold for them? PART II CAPTURE THE MOON Harm and Jaime made a list of other things they needed and Harriet ran the errands. Jaime went through her mail and tended to her dozens of plants scattered all around the apartment. Harriet e brought back the videos they ordered, a pile of miscellaneous stuff from Harm’s place including his guitar and music and other assorted goodies to pass the time away. They settled into Jaime’s apartment. Subconsciously, they felt comfortable to be together. During the next couple of days they introduced each other to their own ways of life - each other’s world. They did their JAG work and, of course, discussed the capture of Commander Ashton. Trying to make the best of a difficult time, Harm and Jaime knew they needed to keep their minds off of what was to come. At times their conversations drifted to what they had in common, their childhoods and upbringing and their adult lives. Domestically, they would plan their meals the night before and cook them together the next day. Hampered by her shoulder, Jaime tried to do what she could. They watched videos, played scrabble, exercised with the bike and treadmill and did the household chores. Harm and Mac emailed each other or talked to each other at least once a day. He was very quite after the calls. He would retreat by playing his guitar. Jaime thought it was a way he coped with her absence. On the bright side, Jaime enjoyed hearing him play. He has a beautiful voice. Harm would sing softly, strumming chords by ear to pass the time at night. Obviously, so lonely, in more ways than one. At times like these, Jaime would do the exercises given by her doctor for arm strength. She would purposely go to her room to give him privacy. Guilty on all counts, Jaime would peak out the door to watch and hear him sing. “Harm, you play and sing so beautifully”, she couldn’t help but tell him one night. “Mac must love to hear you play” “Yea, it helps me relax and not many people have heard me play. I mean, I did sing for Annie, but never really too much for anyone else” he replied. “That’s a shame. You should try and share this with Mac” “Yea, maybe some day. My father bought me my first guitar at 5 years old and told me it was a good hobby, but wouldn’t pay the bills.” Harm looked down at his guitar kind of in a reflective trance. “I heard about your father, Harm. It must be comforting that you finally found him.” “I didn’t really find him. No matter if I did or not, I feel empty now even with closure.” “Harm, you found his son, met the woman who took your father in and found the area where he was buried. Without you, your mother would never have the closure she needed. You were strong to do what you did.” “I guess, but I don’t feel it. It makes me miss him more, to know that he lived all those years without us.” “Harm, your father would have been so proud of you. Now, you need to fill your thoughts and time with things for you. He would have wanted that for you. I know you polish that car of yours all the time, but how about a pick up basketball league or other hobbies? When I needed to move on I kept my gardens growing, started collecting all these house plants and I even rock the babies at the nursery at Bethesda.” “Really, you rock the sick babies?” “Yea, there is nothing better in the world than to comfort a sick baby or a baby that was never held by its mother.” “I’d love to go with you next time. Will you let me?” “Sure, if you promise to start doing things for yourself, fulfilling your needs.” “I guess you’re right. My father’s disappearance has been solved and my mother has Frank. I guess it’s up to me now. Jaime thanks for your advice. I guess I can still learn a few things about myself” he smiled at her with a sincerely, warm _expression. “And by the way, I admire your green thumb. All these plants are beautiful.” “Harm, it’s nice to see you smile. At work you are so serious. I’m glad you can relax here and smile more.” Their conversation turned back to his guitar and the music they enjoy and remembered growing up. Harm admitted he overheard some of the music Jaime played in her room and called them “too sappy for me” tunes. He won’t admit that he plays the same type of “sappy songs” each night on his guitar. Jaime likes other music, but right now her mood has been the “Can I have love again?” mood. She would sit in her chair at night, gazing out side at the sky and listen to some great love songs or even eavesdrop on Harm playing in the other room. This passed the time to when this horrible ordeal would end. Harm and Jaime did most of their work early in the day and they enjoyed “goofing off” by late afternoon. Some evenings after therapy, Jaime’s shoulder would get very sore. Harm helped her as much as he could. She tried to sleep after taking the medication, but would awake with pain and terrible nightmares during the night. Harm was always by her side. His good nature kept her from feeling depressed. He knew how to cheer Jaime up. She hoped he would stop feeling guilty. Jaime found herself entranced by Harm’s presence as they worked, cooked or did housework around the apartment. She would hold onto his stare a little longer than normal. More and more she would catch herself watching him across the room. This could be a “second once in a life time love” if it wasn’t for Mac. Harm is in love with Mac. Jaime knows she is just an ordinary housewife. For a couple of weeks now, there has been no sign of Ashton. Harm and Jaime do their work, make their business calls and take care of whatever work they could from inside the four walls of Jaime’s apartment. Surprisingly, Jaime didn’t feel one bit restless with Harm sitting across from her. She was use to him there for every meal, when she slept and when she woke up. Harm too was getting too use to having Jaime there with him all the time. Harm’s stomach started to rumble with hunger. I feel like pizza tonight he thought. I know JR will go along with it. She’s so easy to be with. I didn’t like this living arrangement at first because I thought I’d be climbing the walls. Not with her. I can express myself. Not as a lawyer or a naval officer, but as a regular guy. I listen for her at night if she needs help. I help her do the things she has problems with because of her shoulder. I make sure she is comfortable because of the bruised ribs. I thought I knew everything, but she teaches me so much more. Sometimes she looks scared of me, like she may say or do something wrong. It seems she has no confidence in herself. I wonder why? Harm’s thoughts were getting too complicated. He decided just to let things happen and not analyze the situation too much. This was a new experience for Harm – just let things happen. Still, he worried about Mac. Harm realizes it is hard for him to talk about JR to her. Mac, though, is very concerned that they are all right and safe. They hardly talk intimate anymore at all because Mac feels awkward. She wants to work things face to face. Wasn’t that his reasoning for her not to go in the first place? He cursed the memory of that night. Until this thing is over with Ashton and Mac is back, things are at a standstill for sure. Harm decides to clear his thoughts and fix supper. JR does agree to cook pizza tonight. They had fun making the pizza and made way too much of a mess with the flour. At the sink JR was trying to wash up. It wasn’t quite working with one hand so Harm insisted that he help her. He touched up her face with the washcloth and suddenly Harm needed and wanted to kiss her. He did ever so lightly. Harm froze between wanting more and wanting to apologize for over stepping his bounds. He waited for her reaction. Just that little stroke across her lips set a rush through his whole body. Harm quickly decided he didn’t want Jaime to get away from his embrace so he came back with another kiss, then another until they connected for a long tender kiss. What do I do? Why is he kissing me? What am I doing here at this point, at this time? His kisses are like gold. His kiss has gives every indication this isn’t a flirting moment. His _expression is filled with trust, not just “taking advantage of the girl behind the bleachers” look; but “I’m here with you, I want you” look. My body reacts different from my mind. My mind says, ‘No, you can’t let him do this’ and my body is responding to all those desires of wanting him. Just his kiss sends me reeling. All Jaime’s thought melt in her mind. She knows that if Harm or any man like Harm met me on a crowded street corner or if he bumped into me in the supermarket, he would never give me a second look. Why is he kissing me now? He is perfect, his eyes, mouth, jaw, neck and down to his broad muscular shoulders. Finally, Jaime breaks away and runs to her room. She sits in her chair; takes off her glasses and cries. Mac has a history with him. Harm loves Mac. He shouldn’t be kissing me. I can’t keep thinking about how sexy or perfect he is. I could never have him. Even if Mac weren’t involved I don’t represent his style of woman. Could I see myself at the Navy Ball or White House dinner? What a joke. Why did he kiss me? Why did he do it? Jaime keeps going over and over the reasons why this shouldn’t have happened and how scared she has become. She didn’t hear Harm knock. He came in, to her surprise, and knelt down in front of her chair. Harm took Jaime’s hands down from her face. Their eyes met, it was more than she could take. “Hey, hey, Jaime, I’m sorry, if I offended you”. His hand rested on her face and his thumb rubbed her cheek. His _expression turned to confusion. “JR, I didn’t mean that either. I mean, well, …. “ All of a sudden I can’t talk to her? What is wrong with me? This is the second woman in my life that gets me stuttering and fumbling for words. He was mad at himself. “Harm, maybe you should leave. I mean go back to your own apartment.” Jaime removed his hand from her face. “There has been no sight of what’s his name. This wasn’t a good idea.” Jaime tried to stand and get passed him. He held her back. “J.R., no, I won’t leave you. I am not sorry I kissed you. I wanted too.” Harm suddenly blurted out. Jaime looked at Harm with such rage. He was taken back by her reaction. “You wanted to what, Harm? What about Mac? That is who you should be kissing, not someone like me!!” Harm looked so puzzled. Saying, “What?” with just a facial _expression. “You should go now. Leave please!” He started for the door of the bedroom feeling such deep sadness. How could I leave her? She makes me feel like a man, not a superman, not a navy commander or lawyer, just a regular man. She takes the weight of the world off my shoulders. I don’t have to be “on” all the time. She is amazing that way. I have never experienced this before with anyone. Annie, she had too much baggage. Jordan was too involved with work and Renee, well, Renee was a different breed altogether. Mac is perfect for me professionally and romantically, but JR is safe and loving. I always had to maintain a certain air about myself with the other girls, but with JR I am happy. He thinks all this in a second and stops before the doorway. Harm turned back and motioned for Jaime to sit down on the bed next to him. She refused and moved around him to look out the window. “J.R, look”, Harm turned her toward him and held Jaime’s arms, “I don’t understand what is happening either, but I don’t ever do or say anything that I don’t mean. You should know me by now.” “Like Mac knows you? Like you know Mac? She is thousands of miles away and you are both miserable without each other.” “No, J.R., you’re different. I love being a JAG lawyer and especially a Navy pilot, but there are times I deserve just to be me. You don’t hold me in check. I can relax with you. I have never been with a woman who just IS and doesn’t need more than I can give. You are comforting. I learn so much from you, I love how simple things can be when we are together. You have touched every place in my heart. I believe I could be falling for you, Jaime Ross.” “Harm, you have fallen for Mac. And only Mac” as Jaime pushes his hands off her arms. “You need her, not me. How can you take a love like that after so many years and fall for someone else? It doesn’t happen and it certainly doesn’t happen to me”. “I know you have feelings for me. I can see it in your eyes. You love two people”, Harm pleads his case, “Why can’t I have feelings for two women until I figure this whole thing out? You are here, Mac chose to leave” he emphasized and knew he stepped across the line with that comment. “Mac had no choice. You know that and what do you mean by ‘I love two people?’ Jaime asked with more rage in her voice than she intended. “Me and your husband.” Harm spoke slowly. She was shocked at his statement. How dare he! Then she realized that she avoided talking about her husband. Harm didn’t know. No one really knew. “Harm, my husband left me over two years ago.” Jaime looked at him square in the eye and her chin started to quiver. Harm stood so still, he couldn’t move and his _expression turned to sadness. He suddenly felt angry that any man would leave her and four children alone. Finally, he whispered “I’m so sorry, what happened?” Jaime then sat on the bed and explained what happened years before to her and to her children “He always loved to drink, first to relax, then to pass the time, then socializing, then a few times a week. Soon he would leave the house and lie to me about where he was going. I had enough and he didn’t want to hear it. I guess he resented me for bitching so much about it. It’s funny because when he wasn’t drinking he was the perfect husband and father. Like he was two different people. He has a disease that he couldn’t beat. The worse thing, and it finally took a toll on me, was sex. He was drunk at night when we went to bed and I felt like he was “having sex” with me but not “making love to me”. Instead of whispering romance in my ear, he would whisper crude things. He never kissed me. Imagine, never being kissed. Finally, I just lied there and took it. Feeling nothing. My body and my mind felt nothing. It has been more than two years since…..” Jaime stopped, knowing she was saying too much. “Is that why you don’t drink” Harm asked remembering she always refused at first when he offered her a glass of wine at dinner. “Yea, but I don’t think a glass of wine would hurt. I guess I just got used to saying no.” Jaime whispered. “Did he ever hurt you in any other way?” “No, no” Jaime said “Still, the thought of a relationship scares me. Will my judge of character be better the next time around? I don’t know. There has only been one man in my life who never lied to me or hurt me and that was my father. I could trust him completely. He never let me down. I thought every man would be like that. I guess I learned the hard way.” Jaime looked up quickly at him wanting reinforcement. “I guess both our fathers meant so much to us.” “Yes, they did. But, Jaime, you did the right thing by leaving him. You and your kids deserve better” Harm tried to console her and placed his hand on her arm again. Jaime loved the feel of his warm hand on her body. “You have a new life and you have worked hard to meet you goals. I admire you for that.” Harm’s voice turned softer “Jaime, I hope you know that I have never lied to you and will never lie to you. I promise I will never hurt you either. In fact, put me, the Admiral, Bud and Sturgis on that list, too. We are your friends and lying is not what we are made of.” “I know, Harm. I just need more time to get used to this new life. I don’t know if this will all work out, but I’m glad I left home. I do know I deserve more than what my husband gave me at times.” He took her in his arms and held her. He knows how difficult it was for her to tell him. She seemed almost embarrassed, but she got through it. Jaime then broke away from his embrace sensing that more than comfort was in his touch. “You need to leave, Harm. You need to go to Mac and make it work. You can never really love anyone else like you love her. We can’t…do this” as Jaime held out her arm as to show him everything that existed around them, “ you need to talk to Mac. “I have been trying to protect my heart by not falling for you. I admit, my emotions have gotten out of control and now you have my heart in your hands.” Jaime held both his hands together. “Harm, this scares me”. “I won’t ever break your heart, Jaime. I could never hurt you or scare you.” he spoke very soft, but firm. “You don’t know that. You can’t deny that if Mac walked through that door right now you wouldn’t go to her” Jaime pointed to the bedroom door and Harm followed her finger. Harm didn’t say anything. Jaime could tell he knew that it was true. “You don’t realize how lonely my life has been and how long I have felt so lousy about myself. I’ve waited for someone to come into my life to help me change all that. Someone just like you. But, it can’t be you. Don’t you understand? Look, Harm you have to settle things between you and Mac. Make the commitment, do what’s right. Thanks for being here with me during the past few weeks, but we need a little distance right now.” Jaime picked up her portable CD player, rushed past him and left the apartment. The guards spied Jaime, confused, because they never really left the confines of the apartment. She headed towards the roof. Jaime needed to be alone. Maybe another confidence attack? No, her heart was sick and she just needed some fresh air. With no coat, Jaime opened the door to the roof and was met by a fresh blast of crisp air. It felt good on her face. She sat along the wall overlooking the beautiful city. Even though she is afraid of heights she tried to take in the wonderful sight of the lights, the stars and the moon. She played her favorite song by Hill/McGraw and cried as she sang each word. Jaime’s ‘off key’ singing turned into a low whisper as she got more and more emotional over the words. Again, Jaime never heard Harm come up beside her. She was busy finding the track to listen to the song again. So much like a schoolgirl, listening to the same love song over and over again. “Excuse me, JR?” Harm questioned with a bashful tone, “I thought you might like something hot to drink”. She looked over and there was Harm standing there with two cups of hot chocolate, topped with whipped cream and her jacket. Jaime purposely didn’t play her “sappy song” just then so he wouldn’t laugh at her. I’m not in the mood for laughter right now Jaime thought. She shut off the CD. Harm handed her the mug as he placed his down on the wall. He took Jaime’s coat and hung it carefully over her shoulders and pulled it tight under her chin. She sipped the hot chocolate, admitting only to herself that it tasted good. They drank in silence before Harm asked what Jaime was listening to. “Music you aren’t interested in” Jaime stated coldly still looking out across the city. Harm leaned over her to turn on the CD player and he whispered in her ear “I bet it’s the song “Just To Hear You Say That You Love Me”. Jaime turned toward him in surprise, his mouth was next to her ear then he brushed his lips against hers. He must have heard the song coming from her room at some point. Harm took the mug from Jaime’s hands and lifted her off the wall as the music started. He held her and started to dance very slowly. He took his hands and placed them on each side of Jaime’s face and kissed her so passionately she couldn’t help but respond to him. The song played for them (actually listen to this song – it is beautiful) If I could win your heart, if you’d let me in your heart I’d be so happy, baby, Just for these arms to be holding you close to me There’s nothing in this world I won’t try No limit to what I’d do to make you mine, ‘cause I’d climb right up to the sky, I’d take down the stars Just to be in your arms, baby, I’d go and capture the moon That’s what I would do Just to hear you say that you love me He placed her good arm around his neck. Careful of Jaime’s injured arm, which now has a little more mobility, he placed her hand under his jacket on his waist. Harm reached around her back and placed his hands under Jaime’s jacket, too; coincidently, under her sweater, touching bare skin. They danced like kids in high school, not the formal suave way couples do like at the Jag ball. Harriet, several times, has talked about the smooth moves Commander Rabb makes on the dance floor at these parties. Jaime’s forehead rested against his chin. Harm pulled Jaime tightly into him leaving no space for even the cold air. “JR, look up at the stars and moon. They’re out for us tonight” Harm smiled his beautiful smile and their song continued to play in the background. If I could taste your kiss, there’d be no sweeter gift Heaven could offer baby, I want to be the one, living to give you love I’d walk across this world just to be close to you ‘cause I want you close to me I’d climb right up to the sky, I’d take down the stars Just to be in your arms, baby I’d go and capture the moon, that’s what I would do Just to hear you say that you love me Just to hear you say that you love me It was hard to listen to the words and concentrate on Harm’s hands, his smell, his breath and his strength. Just as the song ended Harm whispered, “I do love you, JR.” Dam, I’m losing my thoughts and myself. I promised I wouldn’t do this, but I can’t hold back any longer Jaime thought. She looked at Harm straight in the eyes and placed her fingertips to his cheek. It’s the first time reached out to touch him. “I know this shouldn’t be happening between us, but I can’t turn back now, you’ve brought me too far. Harm, I love you too.” (don’t worry, Harm and Mac do get together. Remember, enjoy being Jaime) They sat down again and drank the hot chocolate. Harm leaned against the wall and she sat between his legs. They looked at each other, smiling, Jaime leaned into him and they kissed for the longest time. Junior high girls would call it “making out” “I think its time to go in. It’s getting colder”. Harm spoke with a seductive tone. “I think the moon and the stars decided to sleep behind the clouds for the evening.” They looked up at the sky and snowflakes fell on their face. “I’d love to sit here in the snow, but it is getting too cold”, JR wiped the flakes off of Harm’s hair. Harm took the CD player and JR’s hand, pulling her off the wall. “I think we better get in and get warm”, Harm chuckled, more of a deep half laugh, half chuckle that seemed to be more suggestive than amusing. Security watched them return to the apartment and probably felt much better they were in one secure place together. As soon as the door was closed and secured, Harm literally grabbed Jaime and they kissed again. Jaime knew she had to get away from his embrace and clear her head. Isn’t that is why I went to the roof in the first place? She reminded herself of how this all started. “I’d like to take a hot shower and warm up some, ok?” as Jaime pulled away from him turning toward the bathroom. “Do you need help with your arm?” asked Harm turning up one eyebrow, seemingly amused. Jaime did hesitate and for a second, and thought of him helping her. “No, I can do it alone.” She struggled with her response. While she undressed, she thought of him here with her, what a joke!! Just looking at herself in the mirror only reminded her that it would never work. Confidence - minus zero. After her shower, she sat on the bed, combing out her hair. Jaime turned on the radio and couldn’t believe her ears. She froze at the lyrics to this song. How could each word be so perfect she wondered? It’s a song by Gloria Gaynor. It’s really been a long time Since I let somebody hold me Since I felt safe in somebody’s arms You were a good friend I could confide in But after all the lies he told me I couldn’t let nobody in my heart I was torn apart All this time you’ve been right here He’s been doing nothing but wrong And though the best thing in my life was Here with me all along I never knew Right beside me there was an angel I never knew You’d give my heart the wings to fly Because of you Everything in my life is changing Turning it to The kind of heaven that I never knew You kissed away my tears And now they’ve disappeared You make me feel safe in somebody’s arms You’re the kind that can do me no harm These questions everybody ask me They say they’d never seen me so happy But that’s a secret between you and me They don’t know nothing ‘bout us baby Can’t let up Can’t tell anybody that you’re not from around here They don’t know that you’re an angel But now it’s all so clear….. Is this a dream? Are you for real? You got me honey Feeling things that I never thought I’d feel You taught me love Don’t have to break my heart in two That’s just one more of those things That I never, never knew I never knew Jaime was simply amazed that this song could have so much meaning. Harm knocked once and came right in carrying a candle. He placed it on the nightstand. He turned off the radio and put on a CD. “I must confess that I do like ‘some’ of these sappy songs”, he laughed. “Yea, I hear you play most of them on your guitar” she quipped right back at him as she tried to come back from the trance from the song “I Never Knew”. “Ya know, Harm, I love to listen to you play your guitar and sing. You have a talent for sure” Jaime encouraged him. “Still, though, keep your day job”. They laughed and the music started to play. The tension about their past conversation left Harm’s body. He felt so comfortable as he sat down beside Jaime and dried her hair with the towel and then gave her a nice shoulder rub. He hoped she felt comfortable and thought back to the disgusting way she explained her husband “having sex” with her. He wanted to “make love” to Jaime and show her that she deserves romance and intimacy and love. They didn’t speak, no words were needed. Jaime, he sensed, began to relax. “Harm, do you hear songs and really listen to the words and how it compares to your life? “Yea, when I play the guitar and play the songs, they have to mean something to me. Whether it is romantic, full of heartbreak or full of fun, I need to relate to it. Why would you ask? “Oh, no reason. I guess I just heard one ‘sappy song’ too many.” Jaime’s thoughts, more so after hearing this song, were scrambled. She knew he should leave, but again, she knew she wasn’t going to let him. As Harm sat behind Jaime gently sensuously rubbing her shoulders, he reached around her and loosened the front of her robe. She was self-conscious about her body and tried to hold the front of the robe closed. Then he kissed her tenderly on the back of her neck. “It’s been such a long time since I let somebody hold me, since I felt safe in somebody’s arms” the song played through Jaime’s head. My God, she thought, I haven’t had a man in more than two years. I was virtually dead inside. Now she could feel herself coming back to life. If Harm only knew what this moment meant to her. If he only knew how long she has waited to be touched. She raised her arm up and reached behind Harm’s neck. She stroked his head while he continued to kiss her neck. Harm instinctively reached around and turned her towards him. He laid her down and kissed her, then looked deep into her eyes. Harm wanted to make sure she wasn’t scared and that she wanted him as much as he did. Jaime was so overwhelmed. He should leave my bed, my room; he loves someone else, she thought and then the thoughts were lost. Jaime spoke first, “Harm, it’s been so long, I’m overwhelmed and scared. Help me.” “Shhh,” he whispered in her ear, “we’ll take it slow. I won’t ever hurt you. I want you.” Harm turned out the lights. The room was overcome by the candlelight. Jaime knew better. He loved Mac, but she was here with him now and it felt so right. Finally, too, someone whispered beautiful words in her ear. Finally, someone was gentle. Gentle kisses, gentle touches. How did Harm know just where to kiss and touch to me to send me over the edge? I feel like a schoolgirl she thought, as her body reacted to his touch. He knew what she needed. They tested each other’s kisses, their hands roamed all over each other’s bodies. He was careful with her shoulder even though she had forgotten about the pain. Jaime stroked his shoulders, his muscular back and neck. Never would she have dreamt that she would be in this place at this time with this man. The feel of Harm’s long naked body against hers, the smell of his skin and the sound of his breathing was too incredible for words. Harm’s thoughts are also being carried away. She is so soft and smells so wonderful. I felt lost in the touch of her skin. Yes, she is different than the usual women I’ve been with, but her personality, her maturity, her smile and her vulnerability, everything, yes everything about her makes her so desirable. Harm and JR matched their desire for each other. They kissed and stroked every part of each other’s body and finally came together as Harm kissed her tears away. Tears of missing love and passion. They lay together after as Harm stroked her hair as she ran her fingers up and down his chest. She looked up at Harm to see his _expression. He looked down at her and smiled. “What’s wrong?” “Nothing, I just wanted….. I just am self conscious.” “Jaime, why because you aren’t tall, anorexic and blonde? Don’t be silly. Those things aren’t going to make me love you any more or any less. I love you because you make me real when I’m with you and because you are wonderful. You give me comfort that I’ve never felt before.” Harm lovingly kissed her on the forehead. Jaime sat up, still careful to cover herself and looked at him very serious. “Harm you need to go to Mac.” “I know Jaime, I know,” he said softly. “Let’s just lie here a little while longer.” He pulled her down to him and she could feel his breath on her face. I know I am risking my heart and taking a chance. I know when he leaves my bed he won’t be back, thought Jaime. Harm slept and she couldn’t help but admire the sight of him. Jaime laid her head and hands on his chest. She could feel his heart beat and would give anything to share that special place in his heart. Now I know why I shouldn’t think of myself as the “ordinary housewife”. Harm has taught me important things about myself. I will treasure that all my life. No one is ordinary. Besides, being a wife and mother is the most important job in the world that I know. It was my own fault for losing myself. I need to lose the extra pounds because it’s healthy, not because I can’t love someone being a little overweight. My spirit was buried and just needed to be found. In the short time Harm and I have been together I became alive and well and special. He found the missing part of me. I took a chance by loving him and it helped me move forward to changing my life. Hours later after a nice sleep, we made love again. We ventured into new territory that our previous lovemaking couldn’t wait for. Harm showed me beyond my belief how his tongue and hands can tenderly melt me away. He taught me more about his pleasure than I ever dreamed. We showered and dressed. “Taking a Shower” brings on a whole new meaning when it’s with Harmon Rabb. “How about a cup of tea, m’lady”, as he held out his hand to lift me off the bed. God, there is something in his voice that makes my heart beat so fast “Sure, I’ll help”, I take his hand and he leads me to the kitchen. “Oops, we left the mugs on the roof. I’ll get them” “Don’t bother…” “It’s no bother,” I cut him off midsentence, “besides, I want to see how much it snowed” Carefully, Jaime went back up to the roof. Her ribs felt much better and her arm was just about back to normal. Jaime opened the door and made sure the wooden door jam was snug in the door so it wouldn’t lock behind her. Wearing no jacket left her shivering against the cold. “Wow, a couple of inches fell” Jaime said aloud to no one. She stopped to look around, amazed that several hours ago she came up here to cry her heart out. Now after a romantic evening, the whole world looks different, she feels herself smiling. They had a new movie planned for tonight’s entertainment. She hopes the entertainment of the night will change. Only with Harm, she smiles at the thought. Jaime grabs the mugs. SLAM PART III – A Wink and A Smile Jaime jumped as the door slammed shut. Dam, I thought, how did the wood pop out? The door is probably locked from the other side. I have no coat and I’m freezing already. My hair is damp and turning into ice crystals. She threw down the mugs in disgust and banged on the door yelling for Harm or security to come free her. “I don’t think they will hear you, Ms. Ross” Jaime turned quickly and with her back against the door she looked directly at Randall Ashton. The pain in her shoulder that she quickly forgot about while in bed with Harm was starting to throb again. He dressed as a security guard and must have been waiting for the moment they were separated for a decent length of time. “So, I finally caught up with the witness to my wife’s horrible accident. Poor Linda. Too bad her plan backfired. She wanted me to take my money and it turned out that she suffered a worse fate.” “You shot and killed your own wife with no conscious at all. How can you live with yourself? Your wife life meant nothing to you at all?” “Not when she tried to make me a pauper in the divorce settlement” “Too bad, wouldn’t your girlfriend stand for sharing the cash?” Jaime asked him rudely. “Look, Ross, you are in no position to question me. You witnessed what happened and I’m not going to have you accuse me of murder. Rabb may know all the financial details, but you saw the whole thing” Ashton angrily yells. The teakettle whistles and brings Harm back to reality. He watched the snow fall dreaming about JR and how wonderful their lovemaking had been and hopefully will be tonight. He knows he took some of her pain away, he help her come back to life and feel special again. He knows she really means more to him that he thought possible. Harm also knew the reality with Mac. JR was right, I have to go after Mac and settle things once and for all. Where is JR? She went to the roof over 5 minutes ago. Harm realized he left her alone too long. He ran to the door of the apartment, swung it open expecting to see the security guard there. He was gone. “Dam, where the hell is he?” Harm yelled for security, but got no answer. He used his cell phone to call the Admiral. Harm raced up the stairs yelling for JR. No answer. Where is she? He reaches the door and surprisingly it opened easily. He looks around but doesn’t see anyone. He notices how much snow has fallen and now it was turning to an icy sleet mixture. The temperature feels colder even though the sleet is falling. He spots the mugs broken on the ground. He heart beats fast realizing that JR is in trouble. “JR, answer me!!” he screamed at almost a panic level. “She’s right here, Attorney Rabb” Harm looked up into Commander Randall Ashton’s face. He was holding JR with a gun to her stomach and his arm around her neck. “Dam you Ashton, let her be, she’s already hurt.” demanded Harm. This incredible angry look came over Harm’s face when he realized Ashton would do more damage. Harm had no problem with killing anyone that hurt the person he loved. He has done it for Mac and will do it for JR. JR was freezing and felt her injured arm suffer more pain each second he held her in that awkward position. I’m so inept at stuff like this, Jaime thought, what can I do to help myself and Harm? I don’t want him to risk himself to injury or worse at the hands of this maniac. “I’m glad you came looking for her, Rabb. Both of you, my witness and my lawyer,” as he nods his head in each direction. “You are bound by confidentially which will cover me, but Ms. Ross here has seen too much. I have to fix that because I’m not going to lose my fortune because of her or my dead wife” Ashton confessed. Jaime grew colder and colder as Harm tried to reason with this guy. The sleet stopped and the temperature dropped. Wet hair and pj’s don’t make for a comfortable evening outdoors in this city. Harm noticed that she was too cold and was starting to shake. He too felt the temperature drop, too. Jaime kept a steady stare at Harm because his eyes told her not to worry. His face had a calming effect. Jaime could always tell what is in the foremost of his mind by his expressions. Suddenly, the swat team armed the roof across the way. Harm must have seen part of the team behind her because he pointed up with his arms while they were crossed over his chest. He did this with such a slight move so Ashton wouldn’t notice. Jaime winked at him to say she understood. She had to somehow separate herself from his grasp quickly. Harm moved his figures under his arm 1, 2, 3 and moved his head to his right, her left. So Jaime knew on the count of three she had to move quickly to her left. Oh, please let me handle this right. I’m not trained for this stuff, she worried. Jaime watches Harm’s fingers 1 then 2 then 3. Her heel came down hard on Ashton’s foot which caught him by surprise. She pulled myself away from him falling to the ground. Harm covered her with his body while the swat team took several shots and nailed Ashton, really needing only one bullet. Harm lifted himself up. “JR, JR, are you alright”, he rolled her over, careful not to hurt her arm. “Yea, but I’m so cold”, Jaime said and she couldn’t stop shivering. “Let’s get you into another hot shower fast”, he lifted her up and they rushed past the dead body. The police now swarmed the rooftop and the apartment. Harm guided Jaime right into the bathroom and sat her down while he turned on the hot shower. Her body shook uncontrollably. Harm lifted Jaime up and both of them landed in the hot shower fully clothed. Jaime still had her wits enough to look at him and laugh. “I said fast, didn’t I?” he laughed back and put his arms around her. The steam rose and the heat from the water felt good. Better, yet, was Harm’s arms around her that felt so good. She faced him, her body right up against his. She stood between his legs as he leaned his back against the shower wall. She could feel his strength and his muscles all though out his body. “Commander, Jaime” yelled the Admiral knocking on the door. “Are you alright, are you both in there?” “Yes, Sir, just a moment” replied Harm. He turned off the shower and threw her a towel. When they were somewhat dried off they opened the door. It took the Admiral much self control not laugh or even question what his imagination was telling him. “I see you both were not hurt. How is your arm, Jaime?” the Admiral smirked. “Fine, Admiral. Actually a little sore but it should be fine.” she shyly answered. “Good, Commander, may I see you for a moment? ordered the Admiral. “Excuse us, Jaime”. They moved into the kitchen for privacy. “Ah, Commander, this case is over. Our suspect was taken down permanently, as you witnessed. You are free to go back to your own home and you should report to your office on Monday. Understood?” “Yes, Admiral,” Harm answered mechanically. “Do you have a problem with any of that, Mr. Rabb?” as the Admiral wonders about Harm monotone response. “Um, no, Admiral, I don’t. It is understood, Sir” “Good,” the Admiral sees Jaime approaching them. “Admiral, may I speak with you?” “Sure, Ms. Ross. Commander”, the Admiral nodded his head to Harm, “Wet clothes bring on bad colds” Harm nodded in reply and watched the Admiral join Jaime in the living room. “What’s that all about?” thought Harm as he moved towards his room to change. Jaime already had changed in sweats. Harm returned and noticed the Admiral left. “Is he gone already?” inquired Harm. “Yea, he needed to get back to JAG. He told me you were leaving because the case is closed.” Jaime said looking for a reaction in Harm’s face. Harm shook his head, obviously struggling with his thoughts. “Yea, I can leave”, he hesitates, “Jaime, I was thinking, ah, I was wondering if I could… if I” “Harmon Rabb, are you at a loss for words? That’s twice today!” JR smiled knowing all to well what he wanted to ask her. Dam, she is doing it to me again. Harm silently suffered for a few seconds as his thoughts were racing. He actually felt silly. He took a deep breath. “I am hoping you will let me stay the night… in your room…with you…, please?” Misty eyed and on the verge of crying Jaime just nodded yes. The overwhelming feelings that have been rushing through her during the past few hours made her cry all too easily. Yea, she considers herself a crybaby. Maybe it’s a way of coping. What if I never found him? Jaime thought. Where would I be? How would I have overcome all these fears in my life? Harm answered all these questions for her. So these tears that built up in her eyes are not tears of sadness, they’re tears of gratitude and love. She thanks God that he is with her right now and that he taught her to feel like a woman again. The police took their statements and Harm and Jaime made a late supper. After all was done they sat on the couch with tea, finally having the cup of tea they tried to make hours ago. With soft music in the background and candles lit, they sat in silence for a while. It was a comfortable silence. Harm put his arm around Jaime and with two fingers and thumb; he rubbed the back of her neck, just above her collar. That simple touch set her off. Jaime’s body tingled and longed for him. She snuggled as closer and waited for his next move. As Jaime rested her head on Harm’s shoulder, he felt her catch her breath as he kissed her temple and forehead. Every touch between them excites them further and further. Jaime placed her hand on his leg and her fingers massage his upper thigh. Minutes go by. Finally, Harm couldn’t take much more of her stroking her nails on his leg. It wasn’t that they were trying to tease each other, it was more a wanting, an irrestible urge to have one another. Harm reaches for her hand and stands up. They walk towards the bedroom and she gladly follows him. Harm puts some soft music on and turns towards her. She looks scared again. “Jaime”, Harm whispers as he takes her face between his hands. He looked into her eyes and kissed her. There is no time to talk, no more words left to say. Talking has been done and they knew it. I want to kiss away her fears and love her for the rest of the night, he affirms to himself. He lifts off her sweatshirt and the rest of their clothes came off simultaneously. Even though Jaime’s arm is better, she still needs help. They lay in bed, wanting it fast, but able to take their time, Jaime and Harm know they need to take their time. Jaime, still amazed my Harm’s beautiful body, has overcome some of her shyness and is a little more aggressive expressing her desire to please him. Harm guides her. Up and down her hands run over his body, like she is memorizing what lies beneath her fingers. Harm runs his fingertips from Jaime’s neck to her knees, stopping at her breasts and back again, over and over. All the while he kisses her lips and kiss into the depths of her neck. Her back and hips arch as his hands continues downward. Jaime softly brushes her lips on his shoulders and neck and it drives him wild. He finds her mouth…. Harm and Jaime open themselves up to each other. Suddenly, Jaime holds his hand still just when he reaches below her hips. He knows what she wants and is more than willing to give it to her. Slow and steady. Harm’s fingers work to please her. His kisses move from her mouth to her neck, to her breasts and down as far as she wants him to go. “Harm” Jaime whispers as he brings her to a place she thought no longer thought existed. Her breathing is heavy and she knows she wants this to last forever. Later, Harm holds her tight as she rests. The tighter he embraces her, he hopes, makes her feel safe and loved. Jaime then turns to his needs. She tries to have enough confidence that she can, maybe, make him forget his worries at least for tonight. She kisses his neck and traces her lips down to his chest, biting and kissing lightly, the sensitive areas. A loud groan came from deep in his throat. Harm grabs the back of her hair and rubs her head. Jaime takes a deep breath of courage and kisses him, traveling slowly all the way down, down to where he finally stops her. There at that spot his breathing gets heavier and his hips move urging her on. He continues to run his hands through her hair. Jaime is still so amazed at his body. With his help, Jaime hopes that he’ll never forgot her. They now lay together, rest, taking their time, knowing the best is yet to come. Jaime and Harm continue to caress each other. It doesn’t take long until their kissing becomes more passionate and wanting. They touch each another in the right places and at the right moments and know how close the edge they have come. Harm lies on top of Jaime and buries his face in her neck. He knows she can handle all of him. His back and shoulders are so solid. Jaime runs her nails over his skin and feels his lean strong body. Surprisingly to Jaime, Harm leans on his elbows, which are on each side of her head and stares deeply into his eyes. His stare penetrates right through her. Jaime touches his face and her eyes question him. “You are beautiful, Jaime” and he smiles. He just smiles, that Rabb smile, and enters Jaime hard and he waits for her to meet him with her hips. From then on nothing mattered, only what they were experiencing. Jaime rolls on top of him and takes all of him inside her. Total ecstasy follows them as they roll back again. Please let this last forever, Jaime pleads to herself. After, Harm and Jaime lie back down facing each other and for a long time he stays inside her. They stayed connected and it was glorious. Jaime and Harm slept on and off until the sunlight brightened the room. Jaime rose from their bed, slipped into her sweats and quietly went into Harm’s room and took out his suitcase. Minutes later he found her. “Jaime, what are you doing? Love me and leave me?” he chuckled until he saw how serious her face was. “You’re really packing my clothes. What’s going on”? He came to me and took his clothes out of Jaime’s hands and threw them back on the bed. “Harm, the Admiral wants you to go out to the Seahawk. Your flight leaves in two hours” she informed him without even looking at him. “When did he tell you that?” “Yesterday, but I didn’t want to ruin our night” “I don’t want to leave. Why now?” “There are some cases that need expert attention from both the JAG senior lawyers and, Harm, you need to go to Mac now, right now. You know what you have to do.” Harm sat on the edge of the bed, pulled her in between his legs. Jaime stood before him and embraced him as he put his head on her chest. Harm lifted her shirt and found her breasts. Fondling and tasting knowing it was the last time he could have her. Jaime held his head in her hands and ran her fingers through his short hair pulling him closer. She rubbed her body against his and quickly their clothes came off again. Jaime then straddled him and took him inside her. Up and down, side to side, forward and back. Jaime moved herself as Harm held her hips with his hands. Suddenly, Harm forcefully flipped Jaime on her back and standing above her he entered her again. Jaime wrapped her legs around his waist while watching his beautiful face as they came together once again. Breathing heavy, Harm laid on top of Jaime kissing her softly. It’s over they both thought. She felt so bad that he had to leave, but things have to be dealt with. Minutes later, Jaime left his embrace, dressed and walked away. An hour later, after a silent breakfast, Harm reaches the door with his bag and turns to hug Jaime to say goodbye. It’s bittersweet. Jaime tries not to cry, but tears of sadness overwhelmed them both. “Harm, we’ll hold these weeks as a secret in our hearts forever. Mac must never know” Jaime made one last demand of him. “I don’t want her to ever know. I don’t want to hurt Mac”. . Harm hung his head down. He was so distraught and torn. He turned toward the door and whispered “I love you, Jaime” and he left. Jaime ran to the door and swung it open. “Harm” she yelled. He stopped and slowly turned back. Jaime ran to him almost jumping up into his arms, wrapping her arm around his neck. Harm reached up and stroked her arm, down her sides and embracing her tightly. “Thank you for saying I was beautiful” Jaime whispered in his ear and the tears soaked her face and they kissed for the last time. Jaime released him and slowly walked away back into the apartment and closed the door. “I will be right here waiting for you, Harm”, she whispered knowing all too well he will never come back. The door was closed. He never heard her. Jaime picked up the phone and after some time reached Mac on the Seahawk. “Mac, it’s JR. I want to let you know that Harm is on his way. I’m sure Harm can help ease the case load problem. Ah, Mac, there is something else you should know. Harm, well…Mac, Harm needs you. He is coming for you… Good luck… I’ll see you next week. Bye” In her frustration JR cleaned whole dam apartment and exercised until her muscles hurt. It’s so lonely here without Harm. All his belongings were removed. Our temporary office was dismantled. They took his guitar away. Everything is gone. I will continue to work and JAG and see Harm and Mac every day, Jaime thinks as she reevaluates her life. When I look at him from across the way I will smile and be so grateful to him. This is no ordinary situation and we are not ordinary people. Harm gave my life back to me in a very beautiful way. We all know that Mac and Harm belong together, but just for a few weeks something good happened to Jaime because of Harmon Rabb. The First Day Back. On the way to work, a song came on the radio and took me to the realization that the next time I see Harm; he won’t be mine to love. He is gone from my bed and from my touch forever. During the time Harm stayed at my apartment there were songs that more or less helped us along with our passion and desires. He comically admitted he did like some of my ‘sappy songs’ like, “Could I have this kiss forever” by Houston/Ingelese, “Nobody Wants to be Lonely” by Agularia/Martin, “Breath” by Hill. As I drive along, the snow started to fall again. Harm and Mac should have arrived back in DC by now thought Jaime. The radio played and this song just pierced her heart by S Club 7 Everybody’s got something they had to leave behind One regret from yesterday that just seems to grow with time There’s no use looking back or wondering How it could be now or might have been Oh this I know but still I can’t find ways to let you go… I’ve never had a dream come true Till the day that I found you Even though I pretend that I’ve moved on You’ll always be my baby I never found the words to say You’re the one I think about each day And I know no matter where life takes me to A part of my will always be with you… Somewhere in my memory I’ve lost all sense of time And so my road can never be cos yesterday is all that fills my mind There’s no use looking back or wondering How it could be now or might have been… Oh this I know but still I can’t find ways to let you go… It continues…. You’ll always be the dream that fills my head Yes you will, say you will, you know you will Oh baby, you’ll always be the one I know I’ll never forget There’s no use looking back or wondering Because love is a strange and funny thing No matter how I try and try I just can’t say goodbye… ….I’ve never had a dream come true Till the day that I found you….. A part of me will always be with you… Harm and Mac are back. Their cars are parked in their reserved spots. I take a deep breath and enter the building. I feel like everyone can hear my thoughts. The elevator doors open, it always gives me a creepy feeling to be in this area where the shooting occurred. I ignore the knot in my stomach. I head for my office and noticed Harm is standing at the window. Every time I see Harm, I am amazed as his beauty and strength. “Did you pick the lock or should I call security?” Jaime asked questioning how he entered her office. She places her bag on the desk. “Sorry, I like the view from your window better” Harm answered but never looked away from the window. “Harriet let me in,” he whispered. Moments later he turned to Jaime looking very upset, “You look good, Jaime. Are you feeling better?” “Better? Well, my arm is fine if that is what you mean” she snapped, looking away from him. “Sorry, Harm” she hesitated, feeling foolish for jumping at him. “I didn’t mean that. How is Mac?” Jaime figured there is no time like the present to get this over with. “She is fine. Singer took her place on the Seahawk. We came back yesterday.” he informed her. “Jaime”, Harm motioned for her to join him at the window. Jaime went right over by his side. Harm spoke in his lowest hushed whisper. A whisper that captivated her. “Mac and I have… well, we have solved a lot of our problems for the better…just like you said would happen. I’m grateful to you. My problem is…is….” Harm spoke slowly barely getting the words out, “I just can’t walk away from you after what happened. I’m not that kind of man… What do we do now, Jaime?” “Harm, you aren’t walking away from me. Mac was in your heart first. Mac was your love first. You are doing the right thing by her. I am happy for the two of you. And besides, I knew after that first kiss what I was getting into. I knew you would go to Mac. Harm, we helped each other in so many ways. I took a chance being with you and I’m glad I did.” Jaime hoped that helped him. She said it to help him move on and because he is right—what do we do now? “I will never tell anyone, it’s between us for always. I just want you to know I will never forget you and those times we…we….” he hesitated. “I will never let you go completely out of my heart. How can I let you know that?” Harm begged desperately for Jaime to give him the right answer. “Just a wink and a smile will do and I’ll know what you mean”, Jaime whispered to him and imitated the suggestion. “Harm, I heard a saying a while ago, I don’t remember where I heard it and I hadn’t even thought about it for long time until the day you left my apartment”. Jaime recited it very slow, making sure each word is heard, ‘I get the best feeling when you say hi or even smile because I know for a second that I crossed your mind’. So I’ll know, we’ll know. Now, friend, I have work to do” I wanted him to leave because I couldn’t take anymore of this conversation. “and I see Mac over there looking for you.” Harm moved toward the door, turns around and gave Jaime a wink and a smile. He left and joined Mac. JAG is now just like it should be – Harm and Mac
